It was just okay. Perfect book for someone who is in a bit of a rut. As someone who has left jobs without a plan, this book really spoke to those feelings and frustrations with the people around me who just don’t *get* it. We’re always looking for something meaningful.

The book just kinda ends, but I didn’t mind that. Butler really speaks to believing the entire world is out to get you, even though it’s not. We can pretend we’re going to reinvent ourselves however much we want, but at the end of the day, we’re still the same person. Change is a full time job (something which our main character tends to forget), but it also isn’t something linear that can be tracked. It’s an acceptance of life as is, not life as romanticized.

Easy little read if you need something quick and makes you think. It’s one of those gateway books if you’ve been in a bit of a reading lull, because The New Me does leave you wanting more.

it really is just a privilege woman complaining about her job. it's not giving

Another book about a millennial with depression who lacks the drive to change her life for the better while maintaining a single shallow alcoholic friendship and gets money sent to her from her parents without apparent judgement - except by me. I'm always down for office job slander / satire though!

Factotum for and by girls, not a rapist. Wish I had this book years ago. Loved the disaster girl vibe of it all; felt kinda like your own steam of consciousness with the different pov at integral points. Really had a good time reading this like I was so engrossed in what she thought about. Incredible sentence structure, words and moments just flowed into each other. Depressed girl anthem with a clear understanding of what it’s like working shitty jobs.
