hello hello another fic about an insufferable bitter female lead who somehow is able to sustain herself with like, no job??

I really liked the observations on modern life and bleak interactions we have with coworkers and other relationships.
There was something endearing about this, and it's short so not super demotivating. I think it fell flat in delivering some sort of resolution. Yet I kinda wanna reread it because some of the commentary was funny and relatable.

I did not hate this. But i didn't love… dissonance….bc i kinda wanna reread also ??? I was entertained okay!!! and that's all i want to be

not bad for a quick single day read. kind of plotless and the ending leaves things on a confusing note. main character is a bit off-putting and unlikable similar to Eleanor oliphant. the story kind of reminds me of my year of rest and relaxation, but it feels more unfinished. could have been great if things were more pulled together at the end.

3/5*

Horrifically depressing, but kinda a kick up the ass? Cutting, but with no lightness to make us feel any sort of hope, which while this may have been the intention, doesn't make for a pleasant read.

incredibly depressing

“Bouncy” and “a dark comedy” are not how I would describe this miserable book. There’s not one funny sentence, dark or otherwise. The main character seems permanently drunk or hungover, unwashed and dirty. Not a book I’d ever recommend.

Like Gwendolyn Riley's characterization: hard to love the main character but (despite some exaggerations) that's beside the point. They are entirely recognizable - in that the reasons why they're unlikeable are understandable, reflecting reactions to the real dreck of being "a part of" American society at the moment. The writing is sardonic, funny, biting, so style keeps you invested. It's funny but also sad how destructive and disposable everything is becoming for America's younger generations.
