I really thought, after the first 5 chapters, that this would amaze me. Sadly, it was not satisfying. Another 5 star prediction gone wrong

this is what I hoped my year of rest and relaxation would be

genuinely terrifying

This book was weird but also, I understand her very deeply

Modern office satire and critiques of late-stage capitalism are absolutely my shit, so I loved this. This book is Eleanor Oliphant meets Convenience Store Woman meets Severance (without the zombies and complete breakdown of society). Parts felt like they were written by my subconscious, other parts thankfully from a little closer to the surface. I read it in two days.

not really sure what the point was but i finished it

How many of us have ever felt stuck in a rut, held a desire to be a better person or to be better at anything yet also experience a total lack of gumption to actually make the necessary changes to achieve those goals? This is such an honest portrayal of loneliness, depression, introversion, social anxiety, and honestly a bit of millennial angst set in the seemingly mundane every day life of a 30 year old woman who just can’t seem to get it together. What is getting it together, anyway? I saw a bit of myself at times in these pages and appreciated the forthright style of writing. This would be a great read for anyone who enjoyed My Year Of Rest And Relaxation.

One of the things I thought when I first read Samantha Irby is "wow, there is someone as mad as me in the world" and I loved it. I could also identify a lot with the anger and anxiety in this novel. It's a quick read, with different narrators explaining a few events several different ways. Biting, angry, sometimes cringe-worthy, it's great writing that captures what it is to be a thirty-something female trying to make ends meet, deal with your demons, and figure out what society says you have to be.

New year new me?
