I'm honestly not completely sure yet how I feel about this book. I didn't hate it but I certainly did not love it. I thought that the overall premise was interesting which is what kept me reading til the end but I did have several problems with it - most having to do with the relationship in this book.

For starters, I did not like the relationship between the 2 main characters. The main guy, David, definitely had an insta-love connection to the main character, Isis, which annoyed me greatly. The main character didn't immediately fall for David's "charm" but once she did (which was still pretty quickly) their relationship was super cheesy, irritating and unrealistic. I felt like their relationship became too serious way too quickly to the point where the guy was giving up his entire life essentially to be with the main character. Not only that but at one point Isis, was considering marriage! Marriage to a guy she has only known for a couple of months.

As for the characters themselves, I honestly did not like any of them. It's not that I hated them all it's just that I didn't feel anything for the characters. One character I did not like though was David. I think that he was supposed to come off as chivalrous, charming and sweet but I felt that he was arrogant and extremely controlling of Isis. At one point he even told her that he hated it when other guys just looked at it. What!? There were also time when I didn't even like the main character. For instance, she was so indecisive. One moment she's mad then she's suddenly calm and totally forgiving of anything (even violence and attacks towards herself and her friends).

Overall, I don't think I will be continuing on with this story and it was just an "ehh" book for me unfortunately.

English review, followed by the Romanian translation of the review (Recenzie în engleză, urmată de traducerea în română a recenziei)

First of all, I would like to express my thanks to the author - Nely Cab - who has given me an ebook copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

My interest in this book started with the campaign to publish "Creatura" in Romania. Seing how popular the novel was, reading the synopsis and a few reviews convinced me it was worth giving a try.

Isis Martin is struggling with sleep problems. Every time she falls asleep, she dreams of a beast that growls at her. After three months of sleepless nights, Isis decides to confront this beast that haunts her dreams only to discover that it's actually... a boy of her age. And what a boy! Isis is convinced that the boy is but a figment of her imagination and she dares him to prove he's real. So said, so done! The boy makes his appearance at school the following day and enrolls as a student there. He is David Chios, he is real and he is... a deity that has fallen in love with Isis and would do anything to make her his.

I particularly enjoyed the blooming relationship between these two characters. "It is forbidden as is the illicit fruit of Hades...", but David can't just give up on love now that he has discovered this feeling. He is too good to be true. He is handsome, romantic, poetic... a winged immortal gentleman, and just a little bit cocky.

" "Do you find me attractive?" he queried.
It was an awkward question, and I felt ashamed to answer because the answer was so obvious. I wasn't blind for goodness sake!
"Are all gods as conceited as you?"
"Only the good ones." He winked. "

Isis, however, fearing the consequences of a romantic affair with him, denies her love for him.

"I was silent. I felt awkward not knowing how to react or what else to say. Any other girl would have fallen into his arms and melted. Too bad I wasn't any other girl."

There are many cute romantic scenes between the two, even before they finally decide they can't live without each other. Most of the times, it's David writing poetry or gifting Isis with flowers. The dialogues are very well written, and make the story feel real. I really loved David's clever love statements and a particular scene where David and Isis are "competing" in declaring their love.

"I shall tell you a truth... your lips taste of sweet ripened berries. I should be so forward as to take them in degust. And if it cannot be so, then I shall kneel until that day in purgatory."

Apart from the love scenes, there are a few other things that made me enjoy this book. One of them was the strong bond between Isis and her mother. I could relate to those moments, having grown up only with my mom, just like Isis did. They are often more best friends than mother and child. They are sharing their worries and happiness, even though Isis cannot tell her about what David is, as it would put them in danger.

The appearance of David's family also spices things up, making for some fun scenes at times. You will get what I mean if you decide to read the book. Also, there will be some complications that will keep you on the boil, not wanting to put the book down - or in my case, the Kindle.

"Creatura" is a quick, fun, cute read about forbidden love, family and student life. If you are a young adult or like reading about teens, then you will definitely adore this book! I am giving it a rating of four out of five stars because there were some parts were the action was lacking or was slow, and there were a few typos or punctuation errors.

" "Mă găseşti atractiv?" m-a întrebat.

Review 1, 8:07 P.M.

Okay, I'm finally getting to writing a review for Creatura. Sorry I haven't done it yet, I have had a lot of things going on at the moment and then I got sick for a few days so I'm doing this now or else I will never get it done. So, here goes...

I absolutely loved Creatura! It left me crying, anxious, breathless, in love with the characters, attached, wanting more and indefinitely starved. I just couldn't get my full of it. I need the second book. After talking with the author on Facebook and reading plenty of other peoples review's that she posts I finally got it when I got to my house and read it! Plenty of people have loved it and rated with five stars but if it were up to me I would rate with TEN stars. But, fortunately, Goodreads does not allow it (which they SHOULD). If they did, it would give a more accurate rating for books.

Anywho! I want to say thank you Mrs. Cab for the signed copy and all of the extra little trinkets that came with the book, which surprised me a bunch! Especially the feather that fell out of the book! I loved it! Now, I just need to get the gold star... *coughs* Umm...

Okay! About Creatura. Creatura starts off with Isis Martin writing journal entries that her doctor suggested to help relieve some stress and she might be able to sleep again. Yes, Isis suffers from a sleep disorder. It isn't her fault that she does, bare in mind. The only reason she has trouble sleeping is because every time she dreams, she is in a field full of flowers and it is beautiful beyond compare until a figure keeps reappearing in her dreams making it hard for her to fall asleep. It might sound like the case of a normal nightmare but not when you end up in the same place in your dreams with the same figure showing up trying to scare you.

As Isis keeps on meeting this strange 'monster' in the distance, she decides one day that she is going to confront it than run away. When she does, everything changes for her; in the dream world and the real world.

Spoiler alert! Do not read it if you haven't read Creatura! Not even if you're curious!

SpoilerThe letters that David gives to Isis...*sighs dreamly* I wish someone did that for me. I loved each of the poems and the way they were signed at the end "Ceaselessly yours..." *insert another dreamy sigh here*, they just made me squeal and fall in love with David! Now, where can I get my own David that will do that for me?

I loved Isis and her mothers relationship! I could see they both were best friends and even though her mother is older, they both coming out acting like how girls do and might as well be in high school talking about boys and how they're going to ever finish their homework. I also loved Nyx. She came out as a very well respected woman the first time she was introduced into the book. Her formal yet punctual demeanour left me felling loved as any mother should. And Gemini...Ha! I absolutely loved their humour and felt they were a valuable asset to the book. And David, David, David... Only one word to describe him: Amazing!

I wish I could tell you more but if I do, I might as well tell you the whole book, which I'm not going to, so, you are going to have to read it yourself. Trust me, you will not regret it one bit. You could read the first chapter on the Creatura page on Goodreads under the book cover.

Creatura was our book of the month for our Author & Blogger online book club. I was pretty excited to read it as I've heard wonderful things and it has a BEAUTIFUL book trailer, which I'll attach below. Nely Cab is also a Texan author, which I think is neat! I love reading from authors that live in the same state as I do!

There were things I liked and disliked in this book. The plot was very different from what I have read before; I always enjoy a fresh story. I was pretty much hooked from the first chapter. It wasn't hard to read the whole book in about 24 hours. In my opinion, Isis was a great main character. She's strong but fragile in many ways.  I do think she allowed too much abuse from the boyfriend. Yes, I get that's part of who he is (someone who gets everything they want), but it still made me feel a bit icky. It wasn't even heavily done, I just believe it's too common in the book world. In this age, I think girls realize that isn't a very healthy relationship. I saw him loosening up as the story goes on, and her strength is shining through. It didn't bug me all that much but I am going to comment on it.

REMINDER: This is fiction! If his small controlling issue rustled your jimmies that much, start reading non-fiction science textbooks or children's chapter books. Some of these reviews are intense, ya'll need to take a chill pill.

The ending really left me wanting more. I've never had a final sentence of a book leaving me like 'WHAT? YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME RIGHT NOW!'. I have other books to read before I can get to the second in the series. This is so not fair. You win this round Nely Cab.I cannot comment on grammar or editing as I used word runner on this book. I'm sure it's fine though as it flowed REALLY well. If you enjoy Paranormal Romance, you'll probably enjoy this. I enjoyed it, and look forward to reading the others.

I did not like the way this book played out. The classic, old romance was great, but the way the book was set was weird.

I absolutely love this book. I was able to finish it quickly once I really took the time to sit down.
The romance in this book left me with butterflies in my stomach the whole time. I absolutely loved the story and the element of gods, which was a first for me. I'm definitely excited to read the next book.
The story makes you suspect some things throughout the book but isn't predictable at all, you never know exactly what will happen until it actually happens.
I fell in love with the characters, though I do think Isis was a little stubborn at times. David is such a classic gentleman and that totally fits his three millennia old self.
The ending of the story scared me to death and made me want to jump straight into the next book.

Wow! This was a really good book. I was completely taken in by the story of forbidden love and the unknown lineage of Isis Martin.

The beginning of the story draws you in, wondering what is tormenting this poor girls dreams. Journal entries and vivid partial dreams lead us to our first meeting of David, the dreamweaver. They have a rocky start to their relationship, but a challenge leads him out of Isis' dreams and into her reality. They have a not so happy reunion and lots of questioning (mostly done by Isis). As their story unfolds so do their feelings (may I just add I loved they way he won her over, poems and love letters were a very nice touch) and their problems. A crazed ex-boyfriend, Gabriel returns to cause all sorts of problems in the small Texas town and David's father Alezzander is none to thrilled about his son's relationship with Isis, who is Creatura. (Yeah, he tries to "get rid of her" mob style the night he meets her!) Not to mention her long lost daddy is trying to get back in touch and she is more than willing to set off looking for him. What will happen with Isis and David we'll just have to see? This was just the beginning of what will be a very interesting adventure.

I do have to say the story is a bit reminiscent of Angels and Nephilim, but I loved the fresh take on it. Overall I'd give the story 4.5, and recommend this as a must read. Can't wait for the sequel!

First I want to thank the author, Nely Cab, for providing me a copy of her book for an honest review.

Creatura…”A fair number of unscrupulous deities used humans for their own pleasures. They conceived half-human, half-godlike creatures..resulted in abominations. They were evil and uncompassionate beings – savages. …caused humans to despise gods.”

This story has ups and downs, layers of different stories wrapped all into one, and is woven so well together that I was able to keep up with all the stories while enjoying each of them in their own right. The author provides a quick but complex teaching of greek mythology mixed with modern day and modern man influences. A love story with a twist at every turn of the story that you just don’t see coming and the author does it again and again. Amazing writing.

Unfortunately, the dialogue between the characters feels a bit choppy which distracted me from the story quite often. Also, David’s behavior just seemed a bit more off than it should have been. This disconnected me from what was going on in the story more often than it should have, to a negative impact. Other characters just didn’t seem to fall in streamlessly either, making it feel like a bit more needed to go into smoothing the interaction of the characters as a whole to keep the story flawless. But I must also explain to you, this story is also one that evolves as it goes on and do not overlook it just because of those points I made. You will find yourself craving the next page. And the ending, well, you will have to read it to find out.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes mythology mixed in with contemporary fiction. The material itself I would suggest to readers 14+. And for those wondering, this is the first book in a series and you will be wishing the next one was out when you get to the end. Nely Cab, thank you for the rollercoaster and I look forward to seeing what happens further in your Creatura world.

This review must begin with a tip of the hat to all the authors that are able to capture the worlds that exist in their heads and share it with us. Without these creative, imaginative people my world would be a dull one indeed. As one might deduce, I respect authors and therefore really hate giving out bad reviews. I am compelled however to give an honest (and probably brutal one) for Creatura. I was really looking forward to reading this story and judging by all the positive reviews I thought I was in for a wonderful read. (I wasn't)

I really struggled through this book- truly, considered putting it down after Chapter 3. The concept, although not original, is something I thoroughly enjoy re-reading time and time again. I truly wanted to adore this book. Because:
1. I'm a sucker for a Beauty and the Beast storyline.
2. I enjoy the reimagining of Creation stories, especially when there is a love story and a Pantheon involved.
But probably, the most compeling reason I went into this story with high hopes, is that,
3. Ms. Cab is from my neck of the woods and is a representative of my Latina community, which-in my not so humble opinion- is sorely underrepresented in the publishing world.
Sadly, even with all of these factors in play, the book fell short of even being a mediocre read.

I think that the problem was that the concept was a little bit too big for a novice writer. While reading it, you get the sense that there this really wonderful story underneath the rubbish dialogue, but it never emerges. And the dialogue, I think, might be what kills the story. The author tries to weave vernacular language with $5 words and phrases. It doesn’t work. The author needs to stick with one, and run with it. Are you cool and like, totally able to relate to a YA audience or are you a high-browed elitist who prefers to use words like matriculate.

Then there's the characters. :-(

Isis, the main character is the proverbial flip-flopper. "OMG, I <3 him." "Ugh, he's so not the one for me." "He's going to be the perfect husband, sigh. "Get married?!?! I'm 17 I can't get married! I need to live my life."

David, the lead male, is too perfect for words. Except when he's kidnapping our heroine, squeezing the life out of her- "Oops, I forgot what a delicate thing you are, my mortal love." Otherwise he’s the perfect tween hero, who writes sappy poetry that sets hearts a flutter.

The parents, the brothers, the friends…ugh, I don't think I can go on, but I think my point has been made.

I don't like to tell people not to read a book, because tastes differ BUT I will tell you not to spend any money on this book. Borrow it from your public library, borrow it from a friend, you and your wallet will surely thank me in the long run.
