It's not that this book is a terrible book, it's just that this series is starting to feel like it's too young for me. I loved the first four books in the series; [b:The Princess Diaries|38980|The Princess Diaries (The Princess Diaries, #1)|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1355011082s/38980.jpg|2073907], [b:Princess in the Spotlight|439275|Princess in the Spotlight (The Princess Diaries, #2)|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1389100014s/439275.jpg|3091320], [b:Third Time Lucky|93745|Third Time Lucky (The Princess Diaries, #3)|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1442427547s/93745.jpg|2728247], and [b:Mia Goes Fourth|169299|Mia Goes Fourth (The Princess Diaries, #4)|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1335901719s/169299.jpg|1005489], but this book just felt blah to me. I contemplated DNF-ing the book, because I almost didn't feel the need to finish it. If it wasn't for the fact that I wanted to reread this series, I probably would have DNF-ed it.

In terms of her friends, I liked seeing Shameeka, and Ling Su a bit more, and I do wish that they were around more in general, because apart from Tina... I don't really like any of Mia's friends. I really dislike Lilly. She doesn't act like a good best friend to Mia. She acts more like an enemy, than a friend, especially in this book.
Spoiler Lilly brings Jangbu (the busboy Grandmere got fired), to Mia's close friends birthday party, and kisses him in the closet with Boris right outside... She dumps Boris for another man, she puts Mia in an awkward political situation when she shows the press her article on the incident at the restaurant on Mia's birthday, and calls Tina a bitch when Tina starts to date Boris after Lilly breaks up with him. I honestly don't see any positives about Lilly as a character, other than her being Michael's sister.

In terms of the plot... nothing really happened... The main problem in this book is that Michael doesn't want to go to prom, and you can guess the ending from that being a problem. Some developments happen, but all minor, and nothing, bar one, impacting Mia's life.

I'm tempted to stop rereading this series altogether, but I want to read [b:Forever Princess|3474186|Forever Princess (The Princess Diaries, #10)|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347807104s/3474186.jpg|3515492], and [b:Royal Wedding|23215471|Royal Wedding (The Princess Diaries, #11)|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1418786285s/23215471.jpg|41355508], because I've never read them before. So it means I'm going to have to trudge through some more mediocre books to be able to say that I've finished this series... But this book has definitely put me off [a:Meg Cabot|11654|Meg Cabot|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1197201648p2/11654.jpg], even though I loved it as a kid. I think it's just because these books are just starting to feel too young for me, and I am finding so many problems with the characters. But I've got to persevere with this series!

The whininess continued. It got old, but not so old I hated the book, just didn't like it as much as the few three. I'll keep reading for now, but this girl needs to start showing some signs of maturing and growing up or these will get shelved for a bit.

this is a great book one of my favorites of the series!
