The fifth book in the Princess Diaries series, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one, lots of fun.
The theme of this one was Prom. Will Michael ever ask Mia to Prom? This one had a lot going on, it was crazy, madcap and one scene in this book had me in fits of laughter. I actually cried, I was laughing that hard.
I really like how Cabot has all these things going on in Mia’s life, and yet it all comes together in the end so her problem of the moment gets its resolution. It’s simple, but very well done and in an utterly engaging manner.
More problems for Mia, scandalous behaviour from Lily and more crazy adventures all around to make one of my favourite books in the series so far.

Fun and funny as always, but Mia's various obsessions, her anxieties, and especially her tolerance of her best friend's cruelty were a bit too unbelievable.

Honestly, Mia is so fun. I love her. She's so dramatic and weird and intense. It's so fun to read. I finished this in one shift while at work. So quick. I still have another hour of work! What am I gonna do now???

While I love this series, and there were some very good and engaging parts of the book, I found it a slog to keep on going with the repetition and constant fixation on Prom. We get it: You haven't been asked to Prom yet. I find it a little more than unbelievable that she would fixate this much on it, but then I was never really that into things like that. I had other interests in life, which is an interesting point to make because Mia is supposed to care for causes and things like that from what I can tell as a character, but she spends little to no time writing about them. Tbh, she is starting to feel a little bland and more of a caricature than a real person.
i didn't like this one as much as i did the previous one-- there was less michael, for one, and i would've liked to see more of the prom itself, plus i feel it hinged too much on the "let's have mia be too unreasonably stubborn to tell michael what she wants and then let this lack of communication dictate the entire plot" thing-- but there were parts of it i really liked. the whole thing with clarisse unintentionally causing a city-wide strike was hilarious, and i actually liked the conflict between lilly, boris, and tina, and how mia dealt with it in general. and i do find it hilarious how mia has a new "thing she's been dreaming of her entire life" in each book. teenagers, man. xD onto the next one.
