Mia is too obbseed with her boyfriend, Micheal and going to the prom. Then when she gets to the prom she doesn't even dance with Micheal-which she doesn't even get upset about other than that good book, good seris.
This isn’t a bad entry—I had fun with a lot of book five, and there is a sense of Mia growing up and getting out of her shell a bit in this. That said, I do have a lot of problems that start in this book; mainly, Mia and Grandmere’s characterization. While I can accept Grandmere being an exaggeration of royalty—used to getting what she wants, ignoring the demands of others—the whole subplot of her triggering a city-wide restaurant workers’ strike really feels too over-the-top and only serves as Mia’s solution at the end of the book. (And is also never directly resolved, which I have a huge problem with.) Speaking of, I’m not a fan of Mia’s motivation to get to prom with Michael. Throughout the first half, leading up to Mia’s birthday, we see Michael being an awesome boyfriend (why, yes, he was my fictional crush in high school, why do you ask?) going out of his way to do something special for his girlfriend, and Mia’s reaction boils down to “Aww, so sweet. WHY DIDN’T I GET A PROM TICKET?” It kinda lessens the ending of this book, as it’s all about what Mia wants, and not her boyfriend’s. Still, I did enjoy the book, despite my issues with it—I liked Mia being able to stand up and becoming a little more confident in herself, I liked Tina’s development in this book, and it serves as a good closure to the “freshman” books.

"Good heaven, Amelia. I already got you an orphan. Are you saying you want to adopt a busboy as well?" (50).
"I mean, the orphan was enough of a gift for one birthday" (131).
Just as brilliant, obvs. And also I feel like this time around, I'm understanding more of the satire, and I really think it's clever.
Mia has really been getting more and more annoying throughout these. This was peak annoyance (at least I hope, but I doubt it).
Throughout this whole book, Mia is whining about how Michael hasn't asked her to prom and is wondering how she can get him to ask her. Then she whines some more about having to ask him. Mia whines about everything that happens throughout this book. Her mother is pregnant and she's whining about how much her mother is frustrated with how much she has to go to the bathroom now. Does Mia have any empathy? Because this book really didn't make it seem like she did.
Also, one part really bothered me. So, spoilers ahead.
Lily ends up making out with a new guy in front of Boris, who was still her boyfriend at the time. So, they end up breaking up and later Boris is holding a heavy globe over his head and threatening to drop it on his head if Lily doesn't take him back. AND MIA THOUGHT IT WAS ROMANTIC. NO. THAT'S NOT. Individuals reading this don't need to think that is romantic. That is manipulating, so no thanks.

Ugh, these things are just so dang cute. I love reading them, I love listening to them (the narrator for the audiobooks does a fantastic job), and I really just need to break down and buy the whole set.
I'm actually kind of excited that I forgot almost everything about the series, since it means like I'm reading it again for the first time. Though slightly out of order. Woot woot.

plot is seeming to get a bit repetitive i wish there was a different storyline other than mia stressing abt a boy and a dance and never vocalizing her feelings or opinions that could resolve any problems of her own.
still entertaining and fun lol michael is the cutest
