So cute, still such a fun throwback to Mia’s life. I legit can’t believe I’m almost halfway through the series…
This series is stating to feel a little formulaic. This book and last are kind of the same as book three but in a different flavor, if that makes sense.
Once again, I know Mia is still very young, but the way she is just incapable of expressing her thoughts and feelings clearly to her own boyfriend is becoming more and more grating. Michael is super chill, super understanding, and Mia just insists on overcomplicating everything. There was actually a moment when Michael noticed something was wrong, but convinced himself it was fine because “Mia would tell me if there was a problem.” He trusts her to be open and honest with him and she refuses to. I understand finding your footing when a new relationship starts, but they’re been dating for a few months now, she should be way more relaxed with him.
Moving on, I can’t believe Lilly broke up with Boris (quite cruelly) and then had the audacity to cry over him when he found comfort with Tina. I wonder which of them will end up with him, or IF either of them will.
Overall, still a cute breezy read, but I do hope Mia starts to mature a little and the plots become more varied going forward. (And shout-out to the new baby! Excited to see Mia as a sister!)

Mia's freshman year is almost over (which means the dreaded Algebra class will be behind her soon!). She's now a staff member on the school newspaper. Her mother is drawing closer to her due date, and Mia is really looking forward to being a big sister. In fact, Mia's father is going to allow her to stay in the U.S. over the summer until the baby is born. But after that, she has to spend the rest of the summer in Genovia - away from Michael.
As the reality of Michael's graduation sets in, Mia realizes that this is her ONLY chance to go to the prom with him while they're both still in high school. The problem is, Michael hasn't asked her to the prom yet! It appears that it hasn't even crossed his mind at all. That's not her only problem - Grandmere and Mia's best friend Lilly are are opposite sides of a service workers strike caused by an incident that happened at Mia's birthday dinner. Will Mia get to go to the prom? And will there even BE a prom if the venue where it was supposed to be held has no workers?
This installment of the Princess Diaries series was quite entertaining. I am glad that Mia is starting to realize her talent as a writer and putting it to use on the school newspaper. (I was starting to get tired about her whining about having no talent!) It was interesting to see Mia fighting with her best friend and secretly fuming at her boyfriend. I like how she handles the situation with Lilly, but I wish she would have spent a little less time obsessing over the prom. This was a fun read, though, and I really liked the ending.

Oh this one definitely had some dated stuff in there. See: the section where she has to learn about Asperger’s and spends several pages lamenting how terrible it would be to “suffer from it”. Definitely extremely 2004.
But otherwise still fun — Mia girly you need to express your needs to people around you!!!

Great continuation. I don't understand how people are complaining about Mia's behavior when it is the same as the previous books. She is only 15 now. That said, there were some questionable parts like Mia's whole thing with Aspberger's. I get the whole seeing yourself in symptoms, but it was a bit off-putting, especially with diagnosing her friends. But again, she is 15, so this a personal preference on my end. I also find it hard to believe that a mental health disorder would be giving in health and safety. It just doesn't make much sense. Something else that was weird was separate proms for the white kids ans the African American kids at other schools? What kind of world does Mia think this is??? Just weird. And the entire thing with Boris hurting himself was odd as well. Michael was great as usual.
Mia is slightly less annoying, but still has so much of her identity wrapped up in Michael. REALLY hoping to see more development now that he's going to college. (Also, does she not reach "self-actualization" until the end of the series because OHMYGOD I might reach through the pages and strangle Mia before then.)
Also, it's just prom. Get over it. (Says the girl that thinks prom is stupid and never went.)
