every time i read this book i discover something else that makes this book prly my favorite. the narration is incredibly childlike and non chronological which is difficult at first but SO WORTH IT bc it’s like that for REASONS that will spoil the book so i will stfu. i was gonna say “i could write an essay on this book” but i have already several times!

Beauty of The God of Small things is in it's non linear narrative. You know what's gonna hit you. And it just adds up the burden just because we know what's gonna happen.

The epitome of Roy's prose is at the last chapter. Ironically she had to face obscenity charges for the same. And when it ends with the last word "tomorrow" it just made a hole in my universe which will haunt me for a very long time.

Somewhat uneven pacing, starting quite slowly and then slowing down and becoming very descriptive. I felt it held me at a distance from the characters, which is a shame because is the essence of the plot was a heartbreaking story, that I didn't really have any feelings about.
The narrative structure that jumped around in time without notice also confused me, and I usually prefer a nonlinear story, but this one really didn't work for me. Towards the end the story kept going back to one pivotal point in time and branching of in different directions from there, which sounds interesting, but felt repetitive and every time I thought the story was just a bout to wrap up, we had to do yet another round.
The heart of the story good and I can see why the writing is often described as beautiful,  but it just wasn't for me.

If I hadn't listened to this book, I probably wouldn't have been able to bridge the language and culture gap on my own, but it was so incredible that I wished, more than once, that I could hold it in my hands.

incredible. i was a bit confused midway but it all came together at the end and was v satisfying. the writing was really beautiful.
