This is one of those books similar to a Toni Morrison novel where the writing is pure poetry. The story is fairly conventional with some unique aspects. The biggest problem with this book was due to my own ignorance about the many complicated aspects of Indian culture in the 20th century. I would love to learn more about the history of Indian and revisit this book some day.

Small Gods are crushed by the weight of Big Gods.
A Big God can consume a Small God.
A Big God fools, steals, punishes, and leaves the Small God hollow.
A Big God laughs, for there is no place for the Small God.
And so, the God of Small Things is kept in secrecy, freed only in dark nights or solitary hours.
If the God of Big Things sees you, he will punish you and bereave you of everything.
That’s how I would summarise The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.
You are your own Small God. Be careful—protect yourself from the Big God. They are greedy for breath.
