Beautiful and very sad book.. Arundhati Roy’s prose is so brilliant that I kept highlighting lines from every other page. Love the way she describes even the little things that we tend to overlook.
I’m definitely going to read all of her books now.

My favourite lines - “Man’s subliminal urge to destroy what he could neither subdue nor defy. Men’s Needs”.

i do not think i have ever read a book that has so accurately captures a child internally navigating and coming to understand the dynamics they exist within, especially when trauma is involved. stunning writing, highlighted so many lines

ps: baby kochamma i despise u so thoroughly

a masterpiece - absolutely blew me away. reminded me at points of gabriel garcía márquez’s ‘one hundred years of solitude’ in the sheer magnitude of the narrative.
a must read for anyone who values gorgeous prose and heartbreakingly vivid characterisation
probably one of my new favourite books of all time

I just don't get it. The only thing I remember from this book is the orange drink lemon drink man and slightest amount of Velutha and Ammus relationship. I'll definitely have to reread it in the future to truly understand it, the whole book was super confusing to me. But I'm not rereading it any time soon. I barely enjoyed reading it. Though, some of the prose was interesting. This novel is definitely the most different book I've ever read.
