I just don't get it. The only thing I remember from this book is the orange drink lemon drink man and slightest amount of Velutha and Ammus relationship. I'll definitely have to reread it in the future to truly understand it, the whole book was super confusing to me. But I'm not rereading it any time soon. I barely enjoyed reading it. Though, some of the prose was interesting. This novel is definitely the most different book I've ever read.

A breathless book packed with detailed imagery and glorious prose. Though hard to follow at times, this book involves the reader in even the nude homeless person on the overpass. Each individual is made important, though their role may be small.
Through one family, The God of Small Things illustrates how a century of oppression can cause personal upheaval. Heavy with cultural critique, this book questions the validity of the social structures that turn family members against each other and make love an evil act. Anti-cop, and anti-caste.

Required reading, assigned to all of you. Also this book is anti-cop, which is good.

really well written but it felt at times like my girl was trying to reach the word count
I love the story, the message, and the prose of this novel--it is extremely compelling and beautiful; however, there are several parts of this book that are difficult to follow. I believe that if I reread the book that I would have a better grasp at what exactly was going on in the parts where I was confused. The events of this novel are not linear, and at times, this made it difficult to understand the sequence of events. The imagery is vastly magnificent throughout the entire novel and the emotion evoked is quite powerful. The only issue I had with this novel was not the content or message being delivered, but the lack of coherence that I felt as a reader. I do not blame Roy for this, as it's evident she is an immaculate wordsmith, but I believe full comprehension could be established with a more astute reader. Because of the wonderful prose, I do believe that this novel should become apart of the literary canon, but readers should do the work in order to fully comprehend the goods of this text.
as vehemently opposed i usually am towards school-based reading, this one has entered the top charts.
it really challenged me in a way that no book has ever had, mainly due to the structure of the novel. other than, that very good.
