Regrettably forgettable. The premise sounds so interesting but unfortunately gets lost and muddled. The beginning is hazy, then intrigue sets in just to dwindle down again. I wish the characters were a bit more flushed out and that the setting was explored a lot more. It feels at many times that we're told it's a castle and there's stone. And not much else. The vibe of hopelessness, fear, and hunger could've been dialed up. I'm also not convinced we ever reached the requirements to use the term debauchery to describe the situation. Other than the thin yet overly convoluted plot, an okay read that leaves you craving a lot more.
Moderate: Cannibalism
I’ve tried to read this book three times and I just can’t get into it
This book was WILD. I did enjoy it? But I also feel like I'm 6 years old waking up in my bed after falling sleep on the couch. Very weird.

I really enjoyed it. It was a bit slow a first and the systems seemed a bit soft but definitely on the upper end.
Would have liked more firm world building and exploration but not upset.

While I was honestly pretty bored before the Saints showed up, afterward this definitely picked up, and I had a fun time reading it (also though because I saw a ridiculous comment from someone allegedly about this book that was entirely baffling me the entire time I read it.) The Luminous Dead definitely remains my favorite Caitlin Starling book though.

Disclaimer: this is a very dark and troubling story but extremely riveting. These were so many horrors but they were so well constructed that I felt myself pulled to the final resolution.
