one of my unhealthy habits is not only keeping up with all the people i’ve dated but also imagine what their exes might’ve been like. this book proved that i am not the only one.

While I could have done without the intro, I really enjoyed the "meat" of the story. Each page was a lovely snapshot of someone's ex, often related in some way to the ex before. Capturing the essence of what is interesting about a person, shedding light on the nature of a relationship in just a few short sentences is not easy, but Shapton does it with finesse. You not only get a feeling for the ex, but for the other person in the relationship, and also for the reactions of other people to the relationship. I borrowed this from the library, but will likely buy my own copy.

dreamy, in a self-destructive kind of way

A beautiful way of representing those ugly/ vulnerable questions we all feel at some point or another.

Sort of a book version of '88 lines about 44 women.' But from a woman's point of view. All the ways that an ex-girlfriend can intimidate the current one. Very fast and breezy, but plenty to make you nod and wince with recognition.

Just a list of ex lovers. They all seemed the same, vapid, almost all white, rich, fashion types. All similarly drawn. I'm bored even trying to review it...
