Getting Rowdy

Lori Foster

3.97 AVERAGE

I loved this book. Rowdy had always been one of my favorite characters throughout the series. Avery is perfect for him. She sees right through him, who he really is and what he hides. She's brave, selfless, kind, and one of my favorite heroines. I absolutely LOVED how she stood up for Rowdy, how she viewed him. She knew his life had been hard, that he never been loved except by his sister and that he'd ALWAYS been needed by everyone in his life. No one had ever taken care of him, until Avery. How she proved it to him floored me. Knowing he wasn't looking for a commitment, she still just wanted whatever time she could get from him she still had the courage to flat out tell him she loved him. Not once, but repeatedly so that he could know he's worthy of love. I mean that to me says it all, one of my time favorite heroines. Rowdy himself, so caring, protective and brave. What he's done to protect those he loved, what he did to protect a young boy he didn't even know. It showed his character and I fell in love with him. Logan, Pepper, Reese and Alice where all in the book again which was great. There was also a new character Cannon who I'm excited to read about in another series. I really like him too, he's very much like Rowdy which is inticing..

2.5 stars.

Lori Foster has let me down with the opening pages. I was hoping it would get better. I hate stories with men whoring around during the book with other women. It's fine for before the book, but once the book starts, H/h meet, it's gotta stop. Later in the story,Rowdy gets his feelings hurt by Avery so he takes it out on her by flirting and dancing with other women. He's a douche. He had redeemed himself from earlier. But now he's in a worse off situation from my view, than before. I hated how Avery saw the best in Rowdy and was viewing him through rose colored glasses. If I wanted to read some new adult book with a whoring hero with demons and a too forgiving heroine willing to get run over, I would have read one. I came to Lori Foster because she is one of my go to authors for when those books leave a bad taste in my mouth. But instead, this one left a sour taste in my mouth too. I didn't like either character and I hated the wsy Rowdy treated Avery. This book was a big disappointment.

Let's see. Where to start? From the first time we met Rowdy in "Run the Risk (Love Undercover #1)" I was intrigued!! He was a complicated character, a protector and a man that knew that sometimes you had to get your hands dirty to get the job done.

This installment had a subtle 'action' story line compared to the previous installments in the series. It was woven in throughout the story, providing just enough action to keep the story moving at a nice pace. This allowed the reader to enjoy both the action and the romance developing between Rowdy and Avery.

I enjoyed getting to know both Rowdy and Avery better as they got to know each other better. While there was an instant physical connection between the two, they didn't jump into a physical relationship immediately. They got to know each other and were friends. Rowdy's past is revealed and we get a better understand of why he is the way he is.

Narrator Review: Jim Frangione did a really good job with the narration. He tries to provide each character with a different voice and tone and he does this better with the male characters than the females. However, it wasn't a distraction. Again, I took it more of him reading me a story vs. him acting it out.

This installment was one I had been looking forward to from the very beginning and it did not disappoint. In fact, I'll go and say it's the best book in the series. Then again, this could be due to my admiration for Rowdy. You can't blame a girl, can you? He's smart, sexy as hell, an Alpha male needing to be loved.

Rowdy Yates has been trying to get Avery Mullins in his bed since the first time he saw her waitressing in a run-down bar in a bad neighborhood. While their story picked my interest in the previous books, this one could easily work as a standalone seeing how much the relationship between Rowdy and Avery has changed by the beginning of the book. They’ve been working together for quite some time, since Rowdy bought the bar and made her head bartender, so they know each other and have become friends and the sexual attraction is no longer the only thing that connects them.

I liked that, seeing as I am not crazy about all these characters who seem to mistake a good orgasm for love, but on the other hand I guess I found something was missing in their chemistry, because at times I thought they would work great as friends and, oh, why does it have to be a romance novel and push them into a sexual relationship… I guess mostly I was disappointed in Rowdy, it seems Avery was at the center of the story: her past, how she deals with her past and her choices, her uncertainties about a relationship with Rowdy… As for Rowdy, he had the kid story, but while I loved Marcus, Rowdy’s approach to the situation wasn’t all that endearing to me.
SpoilerHe thought he could resolve anything with force and all on his own and that are not great traits for somebody in a relationship or for a good father, if that’s what this storyline was all about. I mean, he was considering abducting Marcus if he went to Child services (without even looking into the family they might’ve chosen for the kid) and then what? They were going to live happily ever after on the run, always in poverty and never being able to form meaningful connections, is that it? Then there is the indiscriminate sex in the beginning of the novel which is always a tough sell for a romance and I really didn’t get how using women as sleeping pills made him a good guy.

But all in all, although I liked it less than the previous two books in the series, it was a fast and enjoyable read. I like Lori Foster’s books and this one was very much in her style so I got what I expected and it didn’t disappoint me.

For the most part, there is something about Lori Foster's books that are so comforting to me. Usually the heroes are alpha, but not assholes. They are usually nice guys, and I am such a sucker for that. I've read the vast majority of Lori Foster's books, but for some reason I never got around to Getting Rowdy. Finally I picked up the audiobook for the narrator, but unfortunately, I didn't really care much for this one.

Getting Rowdy is about Avery Mullins and waitress at Getting Rowdy's Bar and Grill, and Rowdy Yates, the owner of the restaurant. Rowdy is a player and not into commitment, but he's been smitten with Avery since be first met her. Although Avery is attracted to Rowdy, she doesn't want to be just another notch on his bedpost. Avery is also hiding out from someone from her past.

My biggest issue was that I really didn't care much for Rowdy, which is not normal for a Lori Foster book. In fact, the opening of the book involves Avery catching Rowdy fooling around with another woman. Obviously they aren't in a relationship, so there isn't any cheating. But . . . I wouldn't feel really good seeing a man who has been pursuing me constantly for months fooling around with other women.

Although Rowdy certainly had his good qualities, I just couldn't understand why Avery would be interested in him. I mean, sure he's good looking, but I don't think that would be enough. And because I didn't care much for Rowdy, I never was really into their romance.

I did like Avery, though. I didn't really have strong feelings for her, but. l liked her. She's a hard worker, and sweet. She's certainly no pushover. But she didn't really leave an impression on me, either. I also found the suspense to be mediocre. That's not really a deal breaker for me, but still, I wanted to make note of it.

Getting Rowdy by Lori Foster was a bit of a letdown for me. I just could never love the hero, which affected how I felt about the whole story. There are so many other Lori Foster books that I love, but this one just didn't win me over. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook

This book couldn't be more aptly named as it's all about getting rowdy (as in acting up) and getting Rowdy, the main character.

In the two earlier books in this series, Rowdy emerged as this murky person, not really certain on what side of the law he was actually operating. Now that his beloved sister, Pepper, is married to a police detective, getting this aspect of Rowdy became more important.

Enter Avery Mullins, the former waitress who saved his butt at the shady bar where she worked before Rowdy bought it. He promoted her to head bartender and now wants her...really bad. He's a notorious one night stand kind of guy and she's wanting none of that, even though she's kind of crazy about him. When her past reaches forward into the present and puts her at risk, it's a game changer in their relationship.

Rowdy isn't a character you're going to fall for from the start. Though he's not a traditional "player" as he's a woman magnet who doesn't turn many away and he's typically not the aggressor. But he sleeps with a LOT of women and is very clear there's zero chance of relationship or second encounters. No way was he going to win me over. Well, famous last words.

The more the story evolved, the more I GOT Rowdy. As he and Avery become closer, she's able to reach beneath his exterior and uncover who he really is, what's really important to him and why he's alone. Their relationship slowly developed as both got to know each other and those lustful feelings deepened into something more precious.

I ended up being crazy about Rowdy and no one is more surprised about that than me. This is a really good story, the best of the series to date as both characters were wonderfully developed, each having a nobility that worked well together. Very nicely done for a guy I was intrigued about but not really impressed with initially. Oh, and there's a guy named Cannon who was introduced here that I want to know LOTS more about.

(I received an ARC from NetGalley)

Exactly what you would expect - standard romantic suspense. I did think the ultimate villain was kind of stupid though.

Another good one in the series! I've been looking forward to how Avery was going to handle Rowdy and the story didn't disappoint at all. Lots of fun twists and turns. Can't wait to read Dash's story next! :)

Such a sucker for happy ending. Very cute book as per usually from Lori Foster. She has great story telling abilities. I was super excited Rowdy got a book, I fell in love with his character since the first book and let me tell you I'm so glad pint size Avery gave him a run for his money!

Great story!

Super excited for Dash's book can't wait to see things heat up btwn him and Peterson whoop whoop
