"When We Were Friends" by Jane Green didn’t really work for me. The characters felt underdeveloped, and the pacing was uneven, making it hard to connect with the story. While the premise had potential, it lacked the emotional depth I was hoping for. Not a favorite, but it might appeal to loyal fans of the author.
Thank you Amazon Original Stories and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for my honest review!
This was a fun novella that explored what deep female friendship can feel like in adulthood. I myself have fallen into friendships before that were all consuming and have later found out that the person I thought she might have been wasn't truly her. This was a quick moving read that had me intrigued from the start. I enjoyed Green's writing style and would like to pick up one of her novel length books.

A short story and it was pretty good. I thought it was going to be a different ending than it was so I liked that it kept me intrigued and guessing. I almost always like Jane Green books..
I will read anything Jane Green writes, and I was super excited to spend time with this clever short story.
Lucy is recently divorced, but unlike the other divorcees in her circle, she’s not looking to get back into a relationship right away. She finally meets Elle, and they become fast friends. It’s almost too good to be true how close they become. It turns out Elle may not be at all who she seems.
In a mere 44 pages, Jane Green has delivered an all-consuming story full of emotion. Wait until the ending!

A great quick read by Jane Green. A subject almost all women can relate to...when that best friend just disappears from your world.
