This was a lot of fun, like a Ghibli adventure

This book is screaming to be a movie. Ragtag band of misfits on a quest, sexy troubled antagonist, understated queer representation, quirky sidekick, merchandisable crowd-pleasing Ewok equivalents, and top notch Halloween costume potential.
That being said, I will be first in line for movie tickets decked out in a blue-skinned benevolent half-demon costume. Get yourself that Hollywood money, Ms Chee!

A humorous novel filled with lovable characters.

Geiki pulled on my heartstrings, and I absolutely appreciated the footnotes.

A charming Japanese feminist fairytale. The writing is strong. The world building is intricate and comprehensive. The characters and creatures are well described and vivid, they pop of the page. I felt transported to this otherworldly place of magic and adventure - what more can you ask for from a fairytale?

This was a very interesting story about a Japanese folk tale. The narration and writing was good. My only complaint was that the author way over used the word lugubrious.
