I liked this one, but it did feel too long. I’ve been working through Austen novels for the first time and although I love her for her portrayal of society and its peculiar characters, I feel like it’s getting harder to remain involved in it all again and again. This story, with its three parts and Harriet Smith and Frank Churchill and the Bates monologues was rather long, and I surprisingly had a harder time ploughing through it than the previous ones; nevertheless I was properly invested by the third volume. Because luckily, it did still have all those Austen qualities and the romance wrapped this up nicely.
Because surprisingly, romantically this may be my Austen fave so far - although Persuasion is also up there. Mr Knightley did have to grow on me; in the first volume, I was slightly creeped out by his meddling in the young girls life. But once Emma starts to evolve and grow as a character, their compatibility shows through reflection and banter.
May be worth a reread more separately from the others, might enjoy it more that way.

So boring omg, just talking talking talking.
I enjoyed the second half of the story more, I liked the part with the picnic thing when they all got together and onwards but my god it was slow.
Emma is such an annoying character as well which I actually enjoyed because it’s not often that an author makes their main character disliked and it was weirdly refreshing.
