This book was physically painful to read. But what else should I have expected from this author with a title like "Dark Age?"

This book was intense! Starting off where the last book ended, the action of this book kicks off on Mercury where Darrow, the Reaper, has come to fight Atalantia and the Ash Lord’s army. However, it’s a losing battle as Atalantia’s forces outnumber Darrow’s and they have better tech and better armor. But Darrow, who has never been able to back down from a fight, refuses to retreat and is ready to take his last stand.

Meanwhile, back on Luna, the Senate is in shambles and Virginia is trying to form alliances in order to dispatch a fleet to Mercury to support her husband’s fight. But just as she thinks she has the numbers to win the vote, chaos in the chambers ensues and an old enemy has come back to unseat her from power.

While the book is action-packed, there were some slow parts. Maybe it’s my impatience, but I was mostly only interested in reading about Darrow’s fight and I couldn’t wait for the narrative to shift to his point of view. The other moving pieces that are happening on other planets though did sometimes capture my interest. There is so much going on! And with the book ending on a cliffhanger, I can’t wait to read what happens next. What an unbelievable yet interesting story - 4 stars!
