Someone, Somewhere, Maybe, Sophie Diener’s debut poetry collection, features poems about the experience of being a young adult – first love, first heartbreak, grappling with identity, etc. Diener narrated the audiobook herself, which made the poems that much more powerful. The background music in the audiobook enhanced the listening experience. Her poetry gave me all the feels and were extremely relatable. This is a poetry book I would give to those who think they don’t like poetry to try to change their mind.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

I dont really get how this is poetry, but I guess poetry is subjective.
This felt more like a teenage girls diary after a breakup. These poems were way too personal to really relate to and it felt invasive to read them.

This is a great poetry collection for someone who wants to start reading poetry.

Nothing is too complex or overly complicated (that’s not bad, it makes it easier for people to comprehend when reading poetry). The poems are story-like and melodic, some have hints of rhyme which isn’t personally my preference but didn’t turn me away.

There were some really great lines and stanzas. I felt like the poems are the beginning were much stronger than the ones near the end. A great first poetry collection!

4/5

Solid first book of poetry released by Sophie Diener. Full of poems of love, heartbreak, self-love, mental health, this poetry is the perfect companion to a rainy day or a moment when you don’t want to feel quite so alone in the world.

I do have to say that I’m not the biggest fan of heartbreak/love poems, but that’s only because I can’t relate to them. I feel like Diener’s love forward poems were really personal and I’m glad she got to add them to her book, but they just weren’t doing it for me personally.

The second half with the self-love and reflection though? Looooooved. I did actually cry to one particular poem. Diener’s writing is very earnest and straightforward and uplifting. Her latter poems made me feel at home and content.

I would definitely pick up another collection of Sophie Diener’s poems which I hope she gets to release one day.
