This book was such a fun and lighthearted read. I loved all of the rom-com references and cliches in the book. I definitely related to the main character and her love for rom-coms and waiting to find the one. Although, I guess this sucks for me because I’ve seen a lot of reviews talking about how much they hate the main character oof. I did think it was annoying how she was chasing after another guy for almost the whole book. Like, if I had a Wes Bennett anywhere near me, I would not be chasing after someone else.

I do agree with some of the reviews saying that Liz is insufferable. Like, I’m all for loving rom-coms and waiting for your movie moment, but sometimes it would get frustrating when Wes was right there and she still refused to believe it. Plus, she hurt everyone she loved and only accepted the consequences once it was beneficial for her. A little communication in this book could go a long way.

But, overall, I think it was a sweet rom-com. I would recommend it if you’re in the mood for a sweet and lighthearted read with a swoony love interest.

Tell a friend to tell a friend… I’m baaaaaack 🤪. I know I didn’t really go anywhere, but I’m feeling SO much better and am ready to talk about this book that was { literal perfection }

This was a good one y’all! Swipe for a synopsis. It was legit the perfect rom com. I laughed, cried, and wanted to go watch When Harry Met Sally, She’s All That, and Sixteen Candles immediately after finishing.

I’m officially a Lynn Painter fan now and will be working my way through her backlist! Thank you again to @karas_reads for sending me this! I loved it so much! 💖

"Sometimes we get so tied up in our idea of what we think we want that we miss out on the amazingness of what we could actually have."

I've been curious about this author for quite some time now, but I wasn't quite sure if her books would be for me. I've been warned that her adult books are probably too steamy and to stick with her YA books, and I'm having the feeling this advice hits the nail on the head. I don't read a lot of YA anymore, but I can totally understand why Better Than The Movies is so popular. This is such a cute fake dating romance and basically an ode to romcoms, and I really enjoyed my time with this story. I loved the many romcom quotes at the beginning of the chapters as well as the references to movies and music in the story itself. They worked so well with the plot as well, and I liked the little something extra it added. I loved the whole enemies to lovers, childhood friends to lovers and fake dating elements this story had, although the love triangle vibe was a tad too strong for me. I like quirky and adorable characters, and both Wes and Liz fit the bill. I do have to say that I was a bit annoyed by Liz at times, and especially when it comes to how she treats the people close to her. I understand that she is still grieving her mother, but that doesn't really excuse just how bad she treats them at times. There were some other minor niggles that prevented me from giving it the full five stars, but I still very much enjoyed reading Better Than The Movies. I will be looking forward to the sequel coming out next year!

I really enjoyed this book. But unfortunately there was something missing in it for me to give it 5 stars.  A lot of people hyped this book up, and I did enjoy the book. But I think I thought I would enjoy it more when I read the reviews from when actually reading the book. I loved the characters! It was lighthearted, fun, and it brought me back to my high school years. It was like being in high school again, and it was kind of fun. Liz is very lovable and relatable character. Wes was someone who definitely reminded me of one of my guy friends in high school. Wes was were classic class clown cool kid guy. I feel like I wish I could have seen more banter and deep conversations between Liz and Wes. I wish they would had have more of slow burn before prom. The book kind of just felt rush, especially at the end. I’m a sucker for a good slow burn trope book. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I definitely enjoyed reading it and it wasn’t like waste of my time!

I’d like to start off by saying that I think this book changed my life. This piece of text is absolute perfection. The writing is deep, witty, introspective. The plot was 12/10. I usually predict plots with ease and accuracy, books, movies, shows, you name it, I can predict it. But this book threw my predictions for a few loops and I absolutely loved it. The plot was just. Unbelievable. The characters were also SO lovable. Another important note: if you’ve lost a parent/close friend or family member, this book discusses experiencing grief as a teenager in such a graceful way Overall, Lynn Painter should be so proud of herself for producing this gorgeous piece of text. This is one I’ll never forget.
