I enjoyed this, but not as much as some of Clayton's other books. To be completely fair here though, it could be the time of year and how busy I am.

I found this reading suggestion on a list of '2017 best romances I read' (or something close to that). The synopsis sounded good, & the elibrary had it so it was done deal.

I'm all for powerful females characters who know what they want, and don't 'need no help from no man'. The main character, Clara, just took that concept a little too far. It got repetitive to the point that I would think 'here we go again!' Especially after the illness episode. I don't know of anyone who acts that way in real life. It was just irrational behavior on her part. I was fed up with Clara and I wasn't even the one trying to date her. Kudos to Archie for being level headed, and having staying power. 'Cause I'da been out!

Plus the potty mouths! I like the occasional F bomb. I slip it in when I'm feeling frustrated or mad, but jeez the ladies in this book use it like a comma in almost every conversation.

I probably won't read the first 2 novels of this series.

ARC received for an honest review

The next book in the Hudson Valley series – woohoo.

"Cos you ain't got none unless you got buns hun"

That is what I sing to myself every time I see the cover of this book. He sure does wear those jeans well!

I have fallen in love with this series, and was very excited to get back to Bailey Falls.

Right from the get go I felt like I was in the big house from Dirty Dancing. All I needed was Johnny to come steal Baby from the corner to make the feeling complete!

Clara Morgan completes the Three Amigos that include Roxie and Nat from the first two books. She is kind of the calm to their storms, she completes them.

Archie Bryant - fanning myself. He is kind of old school and fits right in with the old style hotel. Be has that kind of suave, old school Hollywood vibe about him.

I love the push and pull between our lovelies - it is a kind of love/hate deal with a healthy dose of lusty feelings thrown in for good measure. I just want them to get together! I mean, there is a lake, surely they can do some lifting or something there for me?

I loved getting more of the lad and lasses from the first 2 books in there series, and I especially loved a cameo from an unidentified redhead and her beau!

I loved everything about Buns. It is sweet, sexy, cute and adorable and everything I want in my romance books. It makes me want to head up to the mountains and dance the pachanga!

I was really interested in the premise of this one, and found both main characters compelling. Unfortunately the pacing was too slow for me and I felt that the plot dragged on too long in the end.

I've finally gotten around to reading the 3rd and finally book in the Hudson Valley series. Clara Morgan has been on the periphery in the first two books due to her job as a hotel rebranding expert. She travels the world, going wherever there are hotels in need. She's basically like the Gordon Ramsey of the hotel industry. Her next job brings her to Bryant Mountain House, and her biggest challenge - not the house, but the son's owner Archie, who is resisting the changes she wants to introduce. Told all from Clara's POV, you come to see that Archie is all about family, commitment and tradition. They immediately clash, with sexual tension simmering beneath every argument. It was a gradual build up between the two of them with Clara dealing with a lot of internal issues, namely her childhood. She was very stubborn and steadfast in her way of doing things.

It was fun to see the other characters and how they're getting on in life. Natalie as usual was a hoot with her brash and refreshing ways. This wasn't the greatest book, just okay enough to make me want to finish it.

Oh boy am I disappointed in this book, which is surprising because I think I've enjoyed every single over book by Alice Clayton. A short disclaimer, I did read this on the same day that I reread Nuts (Hudson Valley #1) so I was inevitably comparing Clara and Archie to Roxie and Leo. Also, this review has some spoilers **

So yeah, comparison between the two couples. First of all, the way Clara and Archie got together really bothered me for some reason. I'm all for a bit of the hate-to-love trope but to be honest Archie was a complete asshole for the beginning of the book, and I didn't think it was all warranted. Plus when he first kisses Clara it literally comes out of nowhere and to be honest, if a guy kissed me like that after acting like a dick all day every day, I would not be happy. Whereas Roxie and Leo had banter and flirted, and they both obviously were interested in each other, I didn't think Clara and Archie had any obvious chemistry before they started making out.

The middle of the book got a lot better and Archie was a lot more likeable once he loosened up a bit. He went from standoffish with a massive stick up his ass to a lot more relaxed, able to tease, and knew how to tell Clara how he felt, which I always like. I liked Clara a lot more than Archie. She's extremely hardworking, lives for her job (which she adores), and is always on the move, never putting down roots anywhere. Clara for the most part actually didn't bother me. But Roxie and Natalie's reactions to her and Archie did because from literally the first minute they were encouraging her to pursue Archie and who cares about her job. Which had me like, what??? Because Clara is this super successful woman, she loves her job and wants to continue being successful. I didn't understand why her friends were basically telling her to pick the man (who was a dick half the time) over her career. Not a fan.

Next, Archie tells Clara he loves her SO early on, when they've barely begun hooking up let alone have actually decided to date. And she has no clue how to deal with that, which is fair enough because why the hell should he just dump that out of nowhere and expect her to rearrange her entire life because he said he loves her.

The ending though, this is where it really went to shit. At the very end of the book Clara quits her job (company changed hands and she no longer enjoyed it, which is fair enough) and goes back to Archie, declaring her love for him in a massive public, over the top display of affection. Not. for. me. Clara ends up going freelance, which is the perfect solution, but I wish that had come earlier instead of in the epilogue and almost as an afterthought. I didn't understand why her entire life had to be left behind for this guy, and why her friends were so supportive of her doing that.

Anyway, I highly recommend books 1 and 2 of this series but you can definitely skip the third unless you really want to read Clara's story.

I'm a huge Alice Clayton fan; let me just get that out there. The Redhead series is just awesome as well as the Cocktail series. However, I wasn't taken with the first book of the Hudson Valley series and was just so-so with the second book, so this one has stayed on my e-reader for a while. I'm on a mission to clean up that somewhat overloaded e-reader, so I picked up Buns.
I loved it. Clara and Archie are just adorable. Their initial sparring is hilarious and their chemistry is undeniable. They are perfect for each other. The story is also great. Archie is a widower who's been uninterested in replacing his wife. Clara is a workaholic consultant hired to turn the trajectory of Archie's family hotel around. I think the Bryant Mountain House is based on Mohonk Mountain House. I used to hike and cross-country ski there, and I enjoyed reading Ms. Clayton's re-creation of the area.
I really think this book redeemed the series for me - not that I disliked the other books, but I just didn't get the 'Alice Clayton' vibe from them. Buns is sweet and sexy though. Clara is feisty and I've always been a sucker for cute nerdy guys like Archie. I really enjoyed the book.

I think this is my least favorite out of the 3 Hudson Valley books. I still absolutely loved it, but I didn't connect with it the same way as the first two books. I did love Clara and Archie together. They were adorable once they stopped hating each other. I loved the setting of Bryant Mountain House and the supporting cast of employees really made the book. Definitely a heart-felt and steamy read.

This book was recommended to me by TBR (Tailored Book Recommendations).
