It was fine. Boring to me. Like it has some funny and cute moments, but there is no plot. And the author's writing style wasn't consistent? Like it never got bad, but it was like one second she was writing pretty well, then she was writing pretty mid. All in all, I didn't hate it, but I'm not reaching the rest of the series lol.

Sweet but I feel that although the title suggested some unhinged fun, things stayed pretty hinged for being a romance between a human woman and Lizardman. I thought the farming plot was interesting, but I felt like I was being told it rather than shown. Wish the mushroom farming  had more development. I  find some of its colonization elements a bit icky—the lizards became a hunter-gatherer culture after being enslaved and forced into farm labor. Susan marries Olix and sets out to reintroduce farming into the culture. The story is so simple, I’m not sure it handles the colonization deftly enough. Pleasant, low conflict sci fi read.

This was an adorable read. What I noticed is the way in which the human fmc doesn't try to change the way of living of the lizard people that are indigenous to the planet. Instead, she tried to find ways to incorporate her knowledge of farming in a way that both respected their history and land, and that would primarily benefit the indigenous people.

A lot of times in these types of romances, the aliens are portrayed as "savages" that just need to get in line, with an fmc or mmc that "successfully" convinces them to do so. I really appreciate that the author showed the blending of cultures and knowledge in a respectful and realistic manner. The chemistry between the main characters was very well done, with a few small setbacks due to cultural setbacks. But neither one of them gets infantalized.

I'd definitely recommend this!

moofdoof's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 63%

It was going well. I really wanted to like the book and Olix was super sweet. However, they had to go and piss me off. The male lead just explained how his people were enslaved for decades and the main character basically went “okay anyways can I do this thing that will trigger your people’s trauma from that?” And then when theyre mad at her about it she is like “only two people are alive that witnessed that anyway why are they so upset?” BITCH WHAT

Also, the village the mc moved to is very community oriented, they do everything for the benefit of the community. They have no currency and trade goods as needed(no compensation required most times), they have a communal storage where people can leave what they dont want and others can take whatever they need. The main character thinks the gender equality is simply because the men and women of the species are the same size…

Finally, these colonizer romance monster/alien romance books really cant help themselves when it comes to anti-indigenous language can they?

I just couldnt keep going with these things and the vanilla and almost dry progression.

Pleasantly surprised!

I was not sure 100% how this read would go. Reviews were promising but This is the second book I have read by this author and the first was a DNF although I did end up giving that one 2 stars Escaping Fate because ultimately the writing is not bad I just got bored.

This book was shorter and fluffier overall. I had some small qualms but ultimately thought this was a sweet read. But dear lord the title and cover 🤣🤦‍♀️
