I’m intrigued enough to continue on to the second book in the series. The spice was spicy but the plot was trying at times. I think it’s because there are necessary time jumps so there isn’t the nuance of a bunch of details about the plot.

1st person FMC/MMC POV, arranged marriage, culture barriers, size difference

Me ha gustado muchísimo madre mía y con el final tengo sentimientos encontrados. He empatizado muchísimo con los personajes y de verdad que les vaya todo bien a todos, super recomendada la lectura. ¡Voy a echar muchísimo de menos a los personajes!

I cannot believe it took me as long as it did to read this book. I loved it so much I read this one, the second one and third one back to back. Then I messaged @abel.regine and personally told her that it made my absolute crap of a September so much better. Cured me of my depresso espresso and my book slump.

Every book is a marriage of convenience, there is no insta love or anything of the sort. Just two people getting married for one reason for another who eventually realize they’re perfect for the other. I absolutely adored the writing and the way Regine was able to build a relationship so naturally. I love them taking the time to learn each other’s cultures and customs. It was so stinking cute.

With low stakes, no drama or angst this is the perfect book to read when you need something to pull out of a funk or need something just so easy to read.

I literally couldnt tell you why I read this. The story ended so abrutly one second they saved their lands and then out of nowhere its an epilogue? it literally didnt make any sense, i'd advise you save your time and money especially if you plan to listen to this on aduible because it was so bad.

Okay… this book was SHOCKINGLY good.

While I love a good monster romance I had been avoiding this book because I have a serious phobia of lizards and scaly things. Like, on every hike I go on I will leap in the air and away and fall to get away from a lizard. So the cover and the title being a literal lizard man was… not appealing.

HOWEVER, this book was amazing. I loved the premise - the heroine goes to the Prime Mating Agency which is basically like “Matchmaking Last Resort”. It’s for people who are desperate (her) or unappealing (like the hero - unconventionally attractive). I liked that the heroine had an interesting, simple to understand backstory: she was born a third daughter in a matriarchal society that had nothing for her. She needed to marry in order to find freedom or any sort of wealth.

Reading Susan learn to assimilate with her mate Olix’s culture was so interesting. Obviously everything is new to her and she’s the odd one out, and she unintentionally makes faux pas (and so does he). The two of them don’t expect to love each other right away, and I fully appreciated that there wasn’t insta-love and instead they were really focused on learning more about each other and respecting one another. It felt so honest and real.

The complex history of Olix’s people with farming - which is what Susan was raised doing, as she comes from a farming planet - makes for an interesting dynamic. His people were basically enslaved until a few generations ago to be farmers, so look down on the work with a lot of justified emotions.

This book was surprisingly low angst for having pretty high stakes - as Olix’s people are struggling and may starve. But everything felt so tangible and real. I couldn’t stop smiling at the first public market… IYKYK!!!
