This was such a sweet romance even though Olix and Susan weren't so sure about each other at the beginning. Susan and Olix have applied to be selected for an arranged marriage through the Prime Mating Agency. Susan uproots her life as a farmer and moves to Olix's planet. They get to know each other and have open communication throughout the book. Both characters have to learn each other's cultures and don't shy away from that fact. They really want their relationship to work, and they do everything in their power to have a strong relationship and friendship.
I really enjoyed seeing Olix and Susan's relationship develop. The ending of the novel was a little slow, but it did show that Susan and Olix had their own interests and they supported each other, even though Susan being a farmer was a hard thing for Olix's clan to get behind. Their history with farming was not a pleasant one since their people were forced into slavery.
I thought the way the author handled the topic of slavery and farming in this book was done well. Susan didn't force farming upon Olix's people and took into consideration why Olix's people weren't on board at first.
As you can tell, I loved this book! It was sweet, showed how ordinary life is still a way of living, and how open communication and respect for one's partner is so important. Highly recommend!

not sure what i expected from this but definitely didn’t predict colonialist farming narrative
So. Here’s the thing. I loved the relationship between Susan and Olix. It was very sweet (and spicy!) and I enjoyed the low angst as they navigate a marriage of convenience. The plot with the Conglomerate (essentially space billionaire colonizing jerks) was something I haven’t read in sci-fi romance before and it really was such a well done aspect.
So why three stars? The plot and and the relationship needed more on page time together. The first half is really about the romance and then we switch gears and the entire latter half is really about the space jerks. And it almost felt like two different stories. This would have been a GREAT romance with plot if both of these aspects had been intertwined. But we stopped focusing on any romance in the latter half to the point where we don’t get a love declaration until the epilogue!!!
It wasn’t bad and I’m still going to pick up book two, but I hope this is something that doesn’t follow throughout the series.
