Meh; I accidentally read the Minotaur book first (book #5) - which I LOVED - & even though I also enjoyed this one, it just was not nearly as great. Poor Susan - her mother-in-law, while respectful & finally grateful, was absolutely unrelenting there for a while. & while I do get it from their species' POV, the fact that hardly none of them were willing to help or change really grinded my gears. Quite frankly I don't think they deserve little Susie-poo. Skip this one & read the Minotaur book instead.

3.5 // I enjoyed it. An alien romance against the backdrop of capitalism and corporate greed. The MMC is clan leader of his people. She is a burdensome third daughter in an agrarian human colony with an “heir and a spare” mentality as farms are past to daughters. With her prospects limited she applies to a mating agency that matches to species seen as more primitive. What ensues is a story of respect and admiration for cultural differences.

The cultural differences were charming especially their sex discussion since she has her v card. I laughed out loud a lot at the MMCs horror. Loved the care and consideration for the other given the awkwardness of the situation.

I didn’t care for the references of “human customs” when they were very clearly Western human customs. The entire marriage ceremony in his village was a tool of convenience for the FMC to react to and heighten drama. She does all this supposed research about his species but fails to look up ceremony traditions? And the extremely thoughtful agency representative didn’t alert her to them? Seemed out of character for the agency rep. The wedding night volleyed between sweet awkwardness and stilted dialogue. But then the writing does this often and it arrested my attention every time. Still, it finishes strong. Definitely would recommend; especially as an entry alien romance.

tropes: alien romance y matrimonio arreglado
