This book was utterly fantastic. Recommended by my psychiatrist when getting a diagnosis of PTSD, the way so much of my life made sense reading this. It took me a long time to read and many tears, it obviously has stories which are intense and can be triggering but if you go in expecting that I think this book is truly revolutionary in how it discusses trauma in such a detailed yet easy to understand manner.
Heavy reading, but highly informative. Took me a while to work through it.

Unfortunately this was required for school but van der Kolk has quite the reputation for *inflicting* trauma on people. I learned a lot with this book — it could also be delivered in ways that aren’t turning someone’s trauma into trauma porn. There are better books out there … this isn’t it.
