I started by liking this book, then got bored with the lovey-dovey nonsense that felt like the predictable “love at first sight” story. But then, I was hit with a curveball that threw everything out the window and that’s when I really began to love this book! This was my first book by Colleen Hoover and definitely won’t be my last :)

“But I’ll still come home with you,” she says.
“Good,” I tell her. “Tonight you’re mine. I’ll just wait to cook you breakfast until the day after tomorrow. And every day after that, until next November 9th when I get down on one knee and give you the most book-worthy marriage proposal in history.”
She slaps me in the chest. “That was a huge spoiler, Ben! Did you not learn about spoiler alerts during your reading binge?”
I grin as I lower my mouth to hers. “Spoiler alert. They lived happily ever after.”

** I'm not gonna lie, I cried. A lot. I'm still crying. Crap.

NO SPOILERS.

This one was hard to get into, I felt like it was slow to start and I really had to rely on friends recommendations to trust the process. I’m normally done with a CoHo book in 2 days. I will say I predicted the plot twist like 17 pages into the book, BUT I didn’t know how the story would unfold. I finally made it 50% and from that point I had to finish it right then. This book is going to have me crying until next week.

WOW, FUCKING CRINGE. could be all i write in this review and it would be an accurate summary of this heaping garbage pile of words.

Like honestly, what a cool idea for a romance. I love the premise. and honestly? the twist was my favorite part. It felt almost thriller romance in a way?! but then the ending. yes, they all lived happily ever after hooray it’s a romance novel. NO. so much potential wasted on poor writing and so much forced acceptance of toxic behavior?! nooooooo no no no no no.

Look, i’m all for some toxic behavior dark romance type shit. that’s my jam. THIS could have been so cool if she went that direction, but instead she went this sort of weird “no, but he had this excuse for acting the way that he did! that makes him the good guy!! trust me!!” it was very jarring and kind of gross.

i’ve noticed in a few colleen hoover books that the stream of consciousness she writes for her characters is very odd and random in a “i’m fun and quirky” kind of way. it is my thirteenth reason. I hate it. I hate every book I read that has a character written this way. and coho ain’t the only one guilty of it. but it made this book painful to read.

overall just like UGH. this book felt like wearing an itchy sweater all day.

To be honest I did not expect any of this to be good. The last book I read from Hoover was almost a disappointment. I decided to dive in blind. No spoilers just pure hope that this will resurrect my love for her. And it did. It sure the hell did. I didn't see anything that had happened coming. The plot and the twists were genious. Sure, some dialogues and scenarios weren't new but nevertheless it was still creative writing. A page turner, and not to mention the my grip on my kindle while reading, this was really not a cliche.

I think this book was Hoover's comeback on my list list as need-to-immediately-read authors. Plus Miles and Tate had a cameo on one of the chapters and it was so cool!

I'm not spoling anything anymore now to anyone but this is one of those single books you should read. I love it.
