Another fun one, looks like they'll be expanding the world and its history, which is promising.
The cutest, as per usual, with all of it's normal inclusiveness to boot. Love the Lumberjanes so much! This is a great one for middle schoolers and us older kids at heart, too. This one dragged a teeny tiny bit for me, but I liked how it explored how much the girls care for their counselor, Jen. Still one of the best current graphic novel series, IMO.
Ooo how awesome was this! We get some more backstory of the characters, an interesting adventure, and a new mysterious cabin in the woods. The message of be who you are, acceptance, and ignoring gender stereotypes continues here and is well well done. Now it looks like we are going to get into the deeper mysteries of the camp. I look forward to the next chapter!
Lumberjanes is such a fantastic series. Volume 4 did not disappoint. Our fearless girls are off on a camping trip that quickly turns weird (of course) when it starts snowing in the middle of summer. The girls are rescued by Rosie, but Jen gets left behind. Never fear, she is also rescued by new character Abigail. Rosie forbids the Lumberjanes from going after Jen, but they don't listen. Rosie of course knows more about what is going on than anyone. Turns out Abigail used to be a Lumberjane and is now bent on revenge against the things in the woods. We get a bunch of backstory on the Lumberjanes and the Bear Woman. We also might have learned something really interesting about Jo, that makes this book even more fantastically diverse and inclusive. Friendship to the Max! I can't wait to see what happens next.
"The amazing thing about memory is that it can be tricked. You can go through life knowing one thing as a fact but still be proven wrong at a later date. This is because if someone believes in something strong enough, they can make it feel like a fact for them. They can make something the truth, even though it wasn't. Which is why history is important, but might not always be reliable."
Out of Time might be my favorite volume of the Lumberjanes to date. Not only is the original artwork back (yayyyyy!!!) but this volume gives the reader some much needed background information about parts of the Lumberjanes Camp. There are definitely still a lot of questions that need to be answered, but I really liked getting to see glimpses of what the camp was like a generation ago and wondering what happened to get it to the state it is currently in.
Some other pluses of this volume: Jen finally gets her moment to shine instead of being surprised by the shenanigans of Mal, Molly, April, Jo, and Ripley; most of the book happens with snow which is absolutely charming; and we're continuing to get to know the fab five a little bit better. In the third volume ([b:A Terrible Plan|25761329|A Terrible Plan (Lumberjanes, Vol. 3)|Noelle Stevenson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1445630715l/25761329._SY75_.jpg|46670296]) we get some more insight into who Mal and Molly are outside of camp and in this volume, we get to see more of Jo and who she is. For the first two volumes, I thought we were dealing with five unlikely heroes. I am so glad to see them develop into more relatable characters for the reader.
Most of the books end on a cliffhanger, but this one especially has me wondering what is going to happen in the next volume. I am really enjoying these little graphic novels. These would be a great recommendation for upper elementary and middle school readers, especially those reluctant readers. They are short while being thoroughly entertaining. This is just an all-around fun series to read.

I was given this as a Christmas present, and lo and behold it couldn't have been more fitting. The art of the snowstorm was gorgeous and bright, and the story gave enough hints about the overall plot to really draw me in and get me excited for Vol. 5.
