I didn't like this book as well as Death's Acre, although some of the forensic stories in it were intriguing. It does do a good job putting the technology in real perspective, showing where all the TV shows are jumping the gun or simplifying the procedures that get them to the answer. One thing I really like about Bill Bass's books, however, is that along with teaching you about forensics, he does his best to solve the case. Some of his mysteries are never resolved, but he does his best to make clear whatever he can.

Really interesting read about forensic anthropology, how technology has advanced over the years, and how Bass and his colleagues used the body farm throughout their careers by giving overviews of different cases. Audiobook had some weird quirks, but overall great experience.

A good follow up to the first book. A variety of cases are included, giving an interesting glimpse into Bass's experience, expertise and the people and techniques in the field of Forensic science. The fact that not all cases covered are neatly solved also reinforces the reality of the cases described.

The book is very interesting, and I jutted down pages worth of notes. The author is not dry, he jokes, he even teases. Say, he tells us about the C.S.I. fans, and how series, and reality are pretty damn different, especially when it comes to time everything takes. But then adds: at least they taught people to not mess with the crime scene, in case of contamination, but rather wait for experts to roll in. I must give this book a 5 out of 5, it's only fair.

Like the last book by Bass I read, it seems odd to give this a 5 star rating, but I have no complaints about it! Well told stories of his experiences that kept me interested all the way through. Worth a read for sure if you’re into forensic anthropology!

I'm fascinated by anthropology, forensic anthropology in particular, and Dr. Bass and his co-author compliment the fascinating detail with a talent for storytelling. This book kept me turning pages, and inspired me to continue researching the subject matter when I was done. Granted, stories of gruesome deaths aren't for everyone, but if you find that sort of thing interesting, you'll love this book.

I could read 500 books like this. I was pretty familiar with Bill Bass from my forensic anthropology classes in college, this book is a collection of his case studies. In case you were wondering what the most interesting thing in the world is, it's probably forensic anthropology.
