Fantastic novel. Loved the characters, it's definitely a suspension of belief in terms of location and era setting. Wonderful fantasy read 10/10 recommend
Still confused by the story. However, I am excited to read Traveler.
"If I am a monster," Shinobu thought, "it's because of you. You stood by and let me do it.
I love when I get to the end of the book and I'm pleasantly surprised. It's because...this one is labeled fantasy and *I* am not a big fan of Fantasy. But this story is compelling. It sneaks up and hooks you in. When I started, Seekers and athame and John, Quin and Shinobu were all a little confusing. But I stuck with it, section by section. It gives a little at a time, letting you deeper into the world until you realize you are at the final showdown and you are holding your breath.
I truly had no idea how this would all play out and I LOVE how it did.
I will read book 2. I must know how this continues.

I stopped at 40%. Super disappointing. Nothing is happening yet there's confusing chaos. The story just couldn't keep my attention.
I dnfed this at 25%. I just did not want to keep reading it. It was making me not want to read cause it just wasn't very good.
The good: The book has an action packed, fast paced storyline. The cover is so pretty! The book under the dust jacket itself is beautiful! The writing was great and descriptive. It held my attention well. I enjoyed the setting and could picture it clearly. The world is imaginative, a great mix of fantasy and science and drama and mystery. The fight scenes were well written.
The bad: I did not like a majority of the characters. The characters are thrust into horrible situations and make terrible choices. The majority of them do no learn from them and are deplorable. I feel for the characters struggles though and I wish they could find comfort; they go through so much anguish and I wanted to root for them and for them to find peace. But instead of choosing to turn over a new leaf, and trying to better themselves and change their lifestyles, they lose themselves in drugs, 'escorting', and choosing to forget their lives. Towards the end of the book, it was a game of cat and mouse, and those involved and bystanders are getting drawn in and hurt.
I will say one character decides to start questioning everything (though many do this and do not change their actions), and this is not a main character but a side character, and questions if what she is doing is really right, owns up to her mistakes, and tries to grow and correct them, but unfortunately she did not have a big enough part for me to continue in this series.
Overall, the author can write very well, but due to the character growth not being for the better, but worse, this was not the book for me.

After years of training as a Seeker, with the promise of doing good and keeping the world safe, Quin goes through the final rite and learns that being a Seeker is not as promised. Instead, at the end of each mission, she feels guilty, worthless, and anguished. One dramatic event takes her to a new world and a new life. But can she truly escape what she has trained all her life to be?
I was extremely excited to get an advance copy of this book. The hype has been incredible and, as much as I am detesting the book comparisons (i.e.: “XXX meets XXX in an epic new series.”), I must admit that thiscomparison is what pulled me in: “For readers of A Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games…”
And I was pulled in. I was intrigued with the new world: is it ancient? Is it modern? Is it a mash-up? {Note: mash-up was my determination.} The characters were equally captivating; I was genuinely interested in finding out what happened to them. The action was none stop: swords lashing around, leaping, running for lives, fighting abounds. I whipped through the book and was occasionally left breathless.
Why only three stars? This book is solid world-building. As much as I liked the setting and characters, I just do not feel like enough was accomplished with the plot to warrant more stars. I am relieved I knew going in that it was the start of a series. If I had not known that, the stars would have been lower when I read “Is it the end or simply the beginning? Find out in Traveler. Spring 2016.” Will I pick up the second volume? Yes. I am interested to know what happens next – but I hope book #2 has a richer plot that moves this story along at a more rapid pace.
