I really wanted to like this. It had some good creep factor and the performances were fantastic but there's so much sexual violence that's like acted out and described and just no.
That was some seriously brutal man bashing. The characters were so despicable that I didn't even mind the body count.
I really wish writers would do their research and consider the values and attitudes of the era in which they set their tales. Context is a vital consideration when when crafting plot, setting and characters and unfortunately this writer did not spend enough time on ensuring these things meshed effectively.
There are some good performances but I couldn't get past the unbelievable main character. No well bred young woman of the 19th century would behave like she does. Modern sensibilities just do not translate effectively into historical settings. The dialogue doesn't help much either. I felt that if I had this woman chasing after me and repeating the same phrases over and over, the story would have ended much sooner!
I have never been moved to write a review before but I found myself first scoffing and then despairing as I listened to this dramatisation.

This was a strange book. The audiobook had sound affects which was odd and the way it was written was hard to follow.
Could have been good if not for the over done theatrics to ‘bring the story to life.’ Could have done without a lot of the sound effects.
