SJJDND I FORGOT THAT I READ THIS LAST YEAR ANYWAYS WHAT A BEAUT.

Check please was just … kind of okay but the dead fandom got me thru a levels like nurseydex is good, patater is good and shitty knight just has a cool name like dayum shitty knight.

I will say that for what it’s worth I think OMGCP has my favourite portrayal of the strong silent but secretly quite tender and a bit dorky love interest. Like Jack is just fully realised in a very sweet way?? Not even Pride and Prejudice showed me the appeal but with this … with this I Got it.

Completely addictive and wonderful. Storytelling at its finest and art that makes you want it to be real SO badly. Hilarious, heart warming, with the perfect amount of realistic conflict and angst. Protagonist you simply HAVE to root for. Supporting characters that are so compelling they need their own stories and graphic novels STAT. Have read and reread and reread. Will continue reading as long as she keeps writing.

Charmed, start to finish-- I read this in one sitting and am dying for a paperback collecting the whole thing. There is so much to love in this comic, and one of the things I love best is how it leaves room for the imagination to take over and fill in the gaps. The fact that it started on tumblr, with a clear nod to hockey RPF in its early installments, and the vibrant fan community surrounding it are part of what make it such a comforting read. It's been awhile since I read anything that had me literally riveted to the page (screen) but I could not look away from Check Please until I had finished it. And now all I want to know is, how long until the next installment!?

Reading 2019
Book 147: Check, Please! Book 1 # Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu

One of those graphic novels on a list of good YA graphic novels. One of those lists where I ordered every book I could get on hold at the library. The book was published after a run of the comic online. I will say it here and again later that this is not a graphic novel for kids!

The story of Eric Bittle, who is beginning his college career as a hockey player, vlogger, and baker. Eric is terrified to be checked during a game, though he is a very good hockey player. The art in the book is great, it is easy to read, I am going to need to read the second book as well. There are a lot of facets to this book that make sure this book is not for kids. The guys except the freshman live in a frat house environment (yes, sex, drinking, etc), there is lots of swearing, complicated relationships, so many things going on all at once.

The graphic novel is good, I definitely enjoyed it. The feel of it especially looking at the cover and a quick flip through the pages, you would think the story would be more juvenile, but not even close. My rating 4 ⭐️

The Check Please series is one of my very, very favorite pieces of fiction I'm going to be reading and reading Check Please for the rest of my life. It's funny, it's clever, it's romantic, it's complicated, and it has a wonderful ensemble cast. It receives my very highest recommendation.

This is my Heartstopper. A sweet, feel-good queer romance with a dash of hockey. The T-rated version of all those thinly-veiled hockey RPF books. The rest of the team is charming too, especially Shitty. Tone was a little saccharine for my taste but I can't deny that Bittle's hesitancy over coming out to his parents made me get up and pace for a few minutes. Read it in a day.
