The story got unnecessarily complicated and this book was too long. Overall, I liked the love story between Akiva and Karou.

Dreams of gods and monsters - Laini Taylor (book 3)
Many take aways from this trilogy
Love comes in many forms, a person is not what you see on the outside but the person inside the core the soul, just because that is the way it is, doesn't mean we should continue that way, happily ever after isn't the goal but taking application in the simple perfections of day to day. All in all I was sad that this place I had excaped to was shutting the gates.

Okay, okay, I will admit that I didn't love this book as much as the first two. Being the last one in the series, I would normally find that disappointing, but since the other two were EPIC, this one falling short still made it a really good book.

I can agree that the different POVs that I loved in the second book made me frustrated in this one, because I NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. Laini Taylor was like a TV movie, switching to a commercial every time something dramatic happened. It was unbearable.
I forgive her because I love the book so much, but she's getting a Zuzana style eyebrow raise from me.

These books are so eloquently written that they leave me feeling tongue tied and brutish when I go to write a review, so I'll leave it at this: I'm both satisfied and empty, a bittersweet end to a trilogy that left me longing for more.

I so badly want to see the better future that these characters deserve, but one of the most wonderful and painful elements to this story is that although it lives on fantasy, it is rooted in the struggle, pain, and longing that is reality. I accept the many promising possibilities Taylor left open.

The problem is I wanted to like this more than I actually did. Don't get me wrong it was as excellent as the previous two installments were, but it wasn't without its slightly glaring faults.

I went into this wanting to see the conclusion of the stories of the characters that I had grown to love. So, when the book introduced an entire new character to me and kept devoting chapters to her I started to grow annoyed. I didn't care that she eventually tied into the plot. Because while she did she also just brought in what felt like an entire new plot with her. It felt like a giant pivot. That we wrapped up the main story in the first 75% of this book and the last 25% was devoted to now this new thing. Which wouldn't be so bad if there were more books in this series. There aren't. And I don't see any immediate plans for more either. Which feels like a huge letdown.

So, this addition fails in that it doesn't deliver. We could have done without it. We spent the last portion of this book setting up a plot that has no promise of delivery and that curbs some of the joy I got from this series in the first place which kind of sucks.

I feel like a lot of the plot could have been left out. Especially since a whole chunk of it seems to set up a sequel that does not exist and may never exist (the author declared it to be "done" in her notes). It was just another contrived way to keep the main characters apart. A lot of the "final" battle scenes were anticlimactic. Mainly, I assume to make room for meaningless plot points that...didn't matter.

I liked the characters, but there were so many perspectives that at times it dragged.

This series somehow had me still guessing what is happening during the last book and finally knowing everything was so worth the amount of months it took me to finish this trilogy.
Absolutely loved it though never a read a fantasy series like it
