4.5 Sterne :)

THE WITCH HUNTER was a quick, entertaining read, but one that doesn’t stand out. There just didn’t seem to be anything special about it. The characters were one-dimensional, the world-building was nonexistent, the writing was flat, and the romance was unimaginative.

I’ve complained about a protagonist that trusts too easily but Elizabeth almost doesn’t trust at all – I don’t know which is more annoying. She keeps turning her back on and planning to betray those who have shown they care about her so her character was really frustrating to me in the beginning hundred or so pages. I never established much of a connection to her, or the other characters for that matter.
“I understand the need for deception. I should; I live a life of it. Distasteful, perhaps. But necessary.”
The writing is very to the point: this happened, then this happened. Everything was described in the simplest of terms and can practically be read in a monotone voice. There was barely any world-building or explanations given to why things were the way they were.

Because I couldn’t connect with any of the characters, I couldn’t believe in the romance either. There were technically two love interests although it was pretty clear who she would end up with and one of the guys couldn’t be less interested in her romantically, although that didn’t stop her from pining after him.

Overall, THE WITCH HUNTER was a fast read, but the pacing wasn’t enough to make it memorable. Almost every aspect of the novel was fairly bland or just okay so I probably won’t continue with the series.

Eh işte. Okuduğum en iyi fantastik kitap değildi. Akıcıydı ama güçsüz bir kitaptı bence. Karakterleri sevmedim. George'u sevdim biraz.

Not quite Holly Black, not quite Sarah J. Maas, not quite Robin LaFevers, and not quite Kristin Cashore but somehow all those 'not quite's add up into something pretty special.

As fantasy worlds based on Tudor England and Salem in the 1600s this was a pretty good one! As you can tell already this book is a blend of a lot of really great elements, and some of them really work and others don't. It wasn't built in the best way possible, but I know my English history so it was okay.

I really enjoyed the cast of characters and I'm ready for book two!

I really enjoyed this book about a young woman who learned to take control of her life and make her own choices even when they are difficult.

Eh, more like a 2.5. It was fun, mostly. But. . . there wasn't a whole lot of substance past that.

DNF at 36%.
I don't like to DNF books and then try to review it, as I don't exactly have much to say besides the fact it was terribly boring and I did not care about the characters or the outcome whatsoever. Just didn't hold my interest, so I'm not going to bother continuing. Maybe another day I'll give it another chance, maybe not. Just wasn't for me.
