4.5 Stars

Actually a re-read from last year b/c I only recently ordered the 2nd novel.

Elizabeth Grey is one of Anglia's most dangerous. But when she is accused of witchcraft herself, she is rescued by Nicolas Perevil - the most hunted wizard in the country - himself and finds herself at the centre of a sinster conspiracy...

To you know that feeling when you've walked from point A to point B so many times that the walk always seems to be over in no time? That's what it was like re-reading this book. Eliabeth and Fifer, the only other girl in the book, really dislike each other in the beginning, which is, I feel, a common trope in YA, and really annoying. Apart from that, I really loved the characters, plot, and world building. How did it take me so long to order the sequel?

I loved this book and finished it quickly. The story and characters bring this vivid world to life. I was immediately hooked and loved having witch hunter Elizabeth narrate the story. She is tough, but vulnerable allowing the reader to get behind her. Some parts of the story were unpredictable which I loved. Witches, Wizards, ghosts, a ruthless villain, and romance; what more could you ask for? I can't wait for the next one in the series!

I really enjoyed this one, but I also haven't been burned out by reading all the witches-in-alternative-England books that seem to be out there at the moment. I'm always a bit touch and go with alternative history, and I tend to prefer ones like this that are more story focused than history focused. Although the setting is supposed to be an alternative England, it really could be set anywhere in the sense that there wasn't anything definitively English about it.

The writing is good and the characters are interesting, although somewhat lacking in diversity. The pace of the story makes this a quick read with quite a bit of action, especially at the end. I appreciated that the story arc closed nicely, without a cliffhanger, but setting the stage for the next book.

Loved it enough to order/pay for the e-novella and I'm pretty excited to read John's background story. I also just read on the author's website that there is a sequel, which I figured would happen, coming out in June of 2016. Looking forward to that, too.

Sometimes I have to think about a book for a while before I can sit down and write a review for it. Not the case for THE WITCH HUNTER. I finished this book half a second ago, knew exactly what I wanted to say about it and put off dinner for 20 minutes so I could open up Blogger and tell you why I think you should pick it up pretty dang soon.

I love fantasy stories. While I've been reading a lot of contemporary lately, I try to always be listening to a fantasy book on audio if I'm not physically reading one. I listen to them the same way I read them, sloowly. There are lots of fancy names and back stories to remember. There are four hundred kingdoms to learn about and understand why one is at war with another. I've been watching Game of Thrones for what, five years now? I couldn't name more than six characters off the top of my head. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. It's just, fantasy means my brain is inevitablely going to turn to mush with all the remembering I have to do. Which brings me to the current review at hand. *ahem* (Sorry, had to put a little back story in there for you)

THE WITCH HUNTER was a breath of fresh air for me! It came in like a masquerade ball and delivered everything I love about fantasy with no mushy brain syndrome. An intriguing and multi-layered story, paranormal beings, a heroine that kicks booty, a despicable villain, a childhood crush/love/rivalry, swoons galore, magic, fighting, adventure and really cool chapter headings. I read this in roughly 3 hours. That's gotta be my land speed record for reading fantasy.

The other thing Boecker did that I adored? Delivered a satisfying ending. I was worried for a bit. THINGS come to a head at the end and then MORE THINGS happen and then BOOM! The chapter ends. I looked at my Kindle to see that I was 97% complete with the book and I thought for sure I was going to turn the page and see acknowledgements. NOPE. Boecker doesn't leave us hanging, guys! I mean, sure, you're going to be anxious to get your hands on book two of the series, but you won't be hanging from a cliff.

This is a strong debut novel that deserves the attention it's getting. Highly recommend this one for fantasy fans of all ages. Completely appropriate for middle school readers.

I found this book randomly in the library and thought it sounded interesting so I took it home and I am so glad that I did. The premise was great and I was hooked from the very first chapter. After I started reading, I saw the comparisons to Game of Thrones and while I do not think this book is as complex as Game of Thrones, I still enjoyed the world this story is set in very much. The narrator was downright oblivious at times, but for me, it didn't distract from the story. The ending of the book closed the book in a really great way but still made me immediately pick up the second one.

I really liked this one... Just not sure about the ending. Not sure that even was an ending? I mean there was a definite plot and a climax, but I don't think there was any really resolution? Full review to follow.

This was an interesting discovery. I had this book on my shelf for at least 2 years and lately I have been picking up old books and giving them 50 pages before I decide if I read it or unhaul. Given that I rated this book 4 stars I obviously read it all and had a great time doing it. It's a very simple story about witches and witch hunters. I am not sure if I end up reading the rest of the books in the series but if you into witches definitely try this one out!
