another goodie in the series! although the archie/gretchen relationship is growing weary, i still love the story and cain's writing, especially her ability to describe murder scenes in such uncomfortably gross and seemingly accurate terms. unless i'm mistaken, this book had much more sexual graphic scenes than i remember, which didn't bother me, but might turn off some readers.

Listened for fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 4.50

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Let Me Go was strong in character development/growth but the story wasn't my favorite in the series.

Note: If I was rating this book against the others in the series it would have been 3. Let Me go when compared against others in the genre ranks a 4. Choosing how to rank on goodreads, I tend to stick with my higher inclination but wanted to note that it wasn't the strongest in the series.

Story Thoughts: Parts of Let Me Go were fantastic. Oddly enough, it was the parts that involved the case that Archie was working on. However, the parts with Gretchen just did not feel like their normal magic to me. Parts were repetitious and other parts I just wanted more from. That being said, this was a very good read! I love Chelsea's writing and I highly recommend her!

Character Thoughts: Archie is a fascinating character to me. His experiences with Gretchen have made him more complicated, damaged, and very good at his job. I am though, hopeful for him! I want him to let in happiness. This one didn't get him there but I think I see a spark. I really liked the character development of Susan in Let Me Go. She is really getting to shine and come into her own. I believe she is almost as fascinating as Gretchen. Gretchen is still Gretchen! What I love about her is that she knows herself so well and acts accordingly!

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Christina Delaine / Length: 13 hrs and 3 mins

Christina has done a freaking fantastic job since taking over the series. I really think she gets the characters spot on. She changes her emotions to match who she is narrating and you can tell just from that! Overall a fantastic performance.

Final Thoughts: Again on the countdown to the next installment.

Am I the only one lowkey disappointed with this ending?

I was ready to give this book 3 stars like most of the others, but the fact that this was the last one... I can't go with 3, I'll have to take one because it was so anticlimactic.

I'll admit that my problem with Susan was slightly smaller in this book, and I appreciated that Archie seemed like a real male letting his sexual desire cloud his thinking sometimes, but honestly, it was all so... meh!

What was that breakup between Susan and Leo? Seriously, so much to be said and that was it? What about what he whispered to her? Are we seriously not gonna know it? Am I the only one who can't handle a bit of curiosity? Don't get me started on Gretchen running once more, I'll admit that her escape gave it a touch of "reality", but there were so many opportunities to just freaking kill her. I know we were supposed to understand that, in the end, Archie didn't really want her killed, I get that they have a deep-mind-fucked-realtionship, but seriously? I'll also admit that I liked how she was the one to help everyone else and "save the day" but oh my, how annoying is all of that?

It felt like this ending was just a hanging spot, so the author could go back to this series anytime she wanted to because many things were still unsolved. Also, the story just felt like repeating itself.

It was an okay thriller book, but a very disappointing ending for such a story.

Extremely bad. This writer has gone all the way downhill since the first books of this series. This was nothing but nonsense and porn. Weird porn, at that.

Let Me Go was awesome. It is perhaps my favorite of the series, but it’s bittersweet because, while it doesn’t explicitly call itself the finale, there haven’t been any more books in 3 years, so I’m assuming it was the last book.

All hell broke loose. Leo’s cover may have been blown. There may have been dirty cops in the DEA. Archie took an invitation to some masquerade on the island to try and get Leo out, only to barely make it out alive, get a horrendous birthday gift, and have a body wash ashore. Was there a new serial killer? Where was Gretchen? What the hell was going on? Susan ended up there, confused and slightly in danger.

It was such an awesome roller coaster ride and I have to admit, the whole relationship dynamic between Archie and Gretchen just.. it’s intense and I can’t help but kind of like her, although I’m more afraid of her. It’s such a weird feeling. It was as if the whole affair wasn’t just her trying to get one over on the investigators of her own murders, but because she generally became attracted to and cared about Archie. It makes me curious and I’d love to get a glimpse of her perspective.

I highly recommend Let Me Go. It was awesome and full of suspense.

Not as good as some of the earlier ones in the series, but still worth the time.
