In this, the start of a new series, we are introduced to the "Kings". Four ex-Special Forces soldiers who have started a private security company; King, Ace, Red & Lucky. This is Ace's story. Four Kings Security is hired to provide protection round-the-clock for Colton who is receiving death threats. Ace takes the lead, and after initial reluctance, once he gets to really know Colton, the rest as they say "is history".

As always in this author's writing, there is action, humour, strong characters and an interesting and entertaining storyline. It's not perfect as, let's face it, in reality Ace should have taken a back seat in the protection detail once he developed feelings for Colton, but if you can overlook that it's a fantastic story. Charlie Cochet's talent truly lies in bringing us strong, believable, characters, witty dialogue and a storyline that usually holds a twist in it's tail somewhere.

I'll be counting down the days for the next book in the series, which I believe will be Red's story!

Didn't enjoy it as much as a Thirds book. Felt it very superficial - one of those books you read and then forget 5 mins later. I will still read further in the series as I enjoy the author and the second book may be an improvement.

Loved it!

This is such a great love story. Ace and Colton are true opposites attract. Colton is a soon to be CEO and Ace is a security specialist assigned to protect him. Colton does make it easy in so many ways. But the chemistry is too much for either of them to handle. This story has a bit of everything and I couldn’t get enough of it. I can’t wait fir Red’s story next!

~ 3.5 stars but I rounded it up

I am very conflicted with this one. On one part I adored it. I couldn’t put it down. I loved all the characters and the story and how fast paced it was. But on the other hand I wish we got we more of Ace and Colton together, they barely got any time together and I needed more, way more.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did an excellent job. I enjoyed the story and the beginning of this new series.

I did enjoy this but I agree with the comments saying it was a bit cheesy. The romance moved at an odd pace and it didn't feel quite as organic. It doesn't hold a candle to the Thirds series, but it was a fun read all the same.

Re-read 2020: listening to the audiobook (again). Perfect way to spent the last day of the year.

Love in Spades is the first book in the new series Four Kings by one of my favorite authors Charlie Cochet. It’s the first book she’s self published and I’m impressed. The book is well crafted and well edited with a nice cover. Kinda don’t like the way the over model is staring, but that is just me.

So on to the book. Love in Spades introduces us to the four kings, men who served together and now have gone into private security. We’re thrown right into the action when we meet Ace. It’s one hell of an introduction. There are also some sparks when the story gets rolling when Ace and the Kings are hired to protect Colton and oh boy, does Colton not want to be protected. But he’s obtuse with a reason.

I liked this story. Right from the start the authors create an empathy with the characters and they are given their own personalities and character traits so that it gives the story this rounded feel and as a reader you feel like your really know the characters.

The writing is solid and typical Charlie Cochet, it has the witty quality and she writes in such a manner you get drawn into the story and you can’t help but like it, even if it’s cheesy as hell. But hey, that is why I read romance!

The only thing that didn’t really get me was the reason Ace was hired to protect Colton. The whole treats plot angle didn’t really get me and the way the Kings went about was really over the top.

I’ve been a fan of this author since the first THIRDS book and I can see this series gathering as much attention as that series. It’s sweet, romantic, witty, funny (hehe shark!), sexy and with a hint of angst. It was a perfect read for me.

Should you read it? Hell, haven’t I convinced you yet?
