What a heartfelt and wholesome story! Heartstopper: Volume One is a great introduction to the series. Nick and Charlie are equally endearing, and their developing relationship has been handled beautifully by the author. Alice Oseman has also used this opportunity to discuss an array of important topics throughout the series, exploring school bullying, sexuality, friendship, anorexia nervosa, among others.

The artwork took a bit of getting used to on my part, yet it pairs nicely with the story. The illustrations also help move the story along and add an additional layer of emotion.

I now know why everyone is raving about this series! Not only will this story entertain you, but it will educate you in subtle ways as well. I am glad these books exist in the world today, not only are they entertaining but the series explores a wide range of topics facing teenagers in the world today. Overall, a brilliant first book, that ends on a cliffhanger making me want to get to Volume 2 asap.
