I love all the side characters in this series. I'd follow every one of them into their own series if Ide did a spinoff.

A very disappointing book. It felt as if the editing process had been completely missed out prior to publication. In contrast to earlier books in the series there were gaping plot holes, meandering ideas with no cohesion or connection to the main narrative and unbelievable character development. I should have picked up the warning signals at the start when suddenly a character that was on one page described as dead was on the subsequent page found to bring hospital. I will not be in a rush to read anymore in this series.

Ugh had to force myself through this one. So much to dislike and while I have the next one I'm not sure if I'll continue with this series.

Joe Ide is still on his game, but this one is dark, and IQ's instincts seem to be off to the extent that even his troubled sidekick Dodson can't save him. The narrator's voice came into question for me this time too with a gratuitous use of ethnic slurs. In the mouths of characters, these slurs may be understandable. Not sure why the narrator has to echo them.

The main plot/case had potential but wasn't developed very well over the course of the book. The last 25 pages is the book. The rest dealt with uninteresting sub-plots.

Yet another winner from Joe Ide, bouncing all around LA and the topics covered, gangs, multiple personalities, arms dealers and all the rest. Starts out with the standards you're used to with IQ, and then dives and swoops into all sorts of new ground, with twists and turns until the very last page.

I love this series. It's tough, gritty, funny, and smart.
