DID NOT FINISH

I liked the narritive from the main character. I thought her voice was really fun and entertaining. I just have a hard time getting into YA books but I think people who love the genre would really like this.

I just love Jo/Chi so much u__u

I'm still on a mission to thin out my immense tbr pile that started with my decision to pick my reads based on the date I'd first added them to my GR to-read shelf.
Number one was a success.
Will I be lucky twice in a row? Stay tuned to find out.

Dnf'd at around 8%

It turns out I wasn't all that lucky, after all. Meh.
This definitely was unique but im not all that enthusiastic about it so far. I'll probably pick it up again some other time but for now it belongs to the DNF shelf. ariana grande voice thank you, next.

#PenguinOnATBRMission: book #2

this hashtag is something I self-indulgently created for fun when I decided to thin out my immense tbr list as a new years resolution starting from books I added on GR back in 2017/2018/2019 those I added more recently will be shelved normally. So please feel free to check out the shelf with the same name to check out how it went with previous books, to keep up with this insanely over-hyped adventure I got myself into or to simply share with another overdoing, picky, messy reader your very own reading experience. Happy reading and stay penguin-y!

To Be Continued...

I see people what mean - this book is outright funny/fun. The main character certainly isn't a good guy, but her humor is contagious and she isn't filled with any angst despite some tragedy. She's quirky and amusing, a spicy hoot. I especially giggled with the descriptions of the teenage boys filling their chests swell with ego, than the main lead guy isn't that bright, that the new friend isn't perfect, and that there's chaos all around. Oh yeah, and villanious demons who want to destroy and devour, Meda finding out about her parentage and legacy, GHOSTS, and unique stuff...all that. There is a very sad loss later *sniffs*

Finally done! I like it! Meda is honest. Bruttaly honest in a way. This book is really engaging and fun. It was described in oh-so-detailed that I cringe with the murder scenes she did. And I liked that she goes after to those who are murderers. Avenged them. I like how she develops or should I say regained her humanity. I didn't see it coming when author told who killed her mom. :o

Anyway, thank you for the arc albeit late review. It is a good read! :)

This book was good, I liked the fact that it was told from the point of view of the demon girl, and for once I was excited to read the villain's thoughts and all
Spoiler But I was very disappointed when she chose the good side at the end, I really wanted to read a book about a villain that doesn't become good

On a side note though, I freaking LOVE Armand!!

Okay, I loved this one.

I guess it's because of the personality of the MC. She's the one telling the story. She's not naive and unbearably perfect as most heroes. Actually, she's rather evil. Intelligent evil.

The story it's about this girl (well, this half-demon girl) who has the need to eat souls, but decides to get only those from bad people. Because her mother would have liked it that way. When I read the plot, I feared I would find a clone from Dexter. It's not. I forgot about that at the first chapter. Meda's idea of survival it's totally different. She's strong, she gets what she needs and then she leaves. She wants to know about her kind. Maybe the idea of settle down it's a good far dream to her, but definitely not a priority.

I also loved the way the author described the different characters. There’s this war between good and evil. And the good guys are even cooler than the bad ones. Again, I didn’t have to roll my eyes thinking that they were too stupid to live.

My point here it’s that this book is fresh. I liked so much the characters that I even enjoy the (not really relevant) romantic part. And with the climax, I was blown away. It had been a while since last time I was so immerse into a book that the author took me by surprise with the main plot.

So I totally recommend it. I’m a bit sad because, since there’s not a Spanish version, I can’t tell everyone around me to read it. Also, since this is the first book that Eliza Crewe publishes, I’m looking forward to read her next works. I guess she’ll get better, so I’ll keep you updated! :)

Talk about a book that goes down quick and easy!

Really enjoyed this one. Meda is quite the character, a real bad ass - which is actually kinda surprising as she probably gets her ass kicked more than she actually does the ass kicking. It's a real testament, I suppose, to her character, as well as the writing of the book itself for her to come across so powerful for someone that doesn't (first hand) give us actual ass kicking scenes.

Don't get me wrong - Meda does indeed find herself in some pretty tight spots - but for the most part her general bad ass(ness) stems from her narrative and accounts from her past that she shares with us, the readers.

I have high hopes to see her fists fly in a flurry in the next book.

"There are some people you know you shouldn’t anger because it isn’t right. Like your mom—if she’s the nice sort. There are other people you know you shouldn’t anger because they have the authority to punish you. Police officers, politicians, insane asylum wardens, your mom—if she’s the bad sort. But there are some people you shouldn’t anger that you don’t know about, because no one ever survived to warn you. I’m the third kind."

Well well.
Meda: 4 stars
Armand: 3 stars (yeah he was there for five seconds and I love him already)
Secondary characters: 2 stars (They were a bit ridiculous/grotesque. In Italy we'd call them "macchiette")
Plot: 2 stars
Sarcasm: YES.

So...ups and downs. Some things I liked, some bothered me a lot. I really liked Meda, she's sassy, badass and a bit evil. Her sarcastic comments made me like the book itself a lot more. However at the same time I can't help but notice that Cracked was a very light read; I did not feel like I cared that much about the characters to be honest.
Another low point in my opinion were the secondary characters. Don't get me wrong, Meda and Jo's friendship is priceless and I kind of liked Uri *cutie pie* buuuuut...Chi, Uri and Jo are quite stereotypical, especially if compared to Meda.

The thing that bothered me the most was Chi. Chi is a ridiculous, flat, stereotypical character. There's nothing that can redeem him, literally nothing. I don't know if the author thought that he would be a fun character, but if that's what she wanted to achieve, she failed for me. My biggest problem was that I wasn't laughing with him or because of him, but at him. I felt like pitying him because of how incredibly silly, stupid and irritating he was being. And don't get me started on Jo and Chi's relationship. After 300 pages I'm still wondering what the hell Jo finds in him. No, really, I don't get how they could be or seem in love and on what their relationship is based.

Overall it's 3 stars, because I'm a generous, special snowflake. Aha.
