Similarly to how Woody felt as though he couldn't write his story quick enough, I felt myself feeling as though I couldn't read this book quick enough! Reading along as Woody wrote his story added a wonderful, emotional, and relatable touch to the book. I felt myself there, making the cross country trip, but also in the VA room. The ending was unexpected; actually, quite a few details wrapping up the book were extremely emotionally unexpected. Tear jerker for me! Extremely glad I picked up this First Reads.

Beautiful! I cried, I laughed. The characters will stay with me for a long time.
I wasn’t so sure about this book at first, though I loved the concept. I’m really glad I stuck with it, because about a quarter of the way through I found myself completely engaged with the story. The book comes together, tying the past and present up in a bow. There were a few loose pieces I wanted to know more about, but a big point of the novel is not always needing to get the entire story about someone or something - sometimes stories can stay a mystery, and that’s okay. (I mean but still I have questions I want answered…I get the lesson but, I mean, for example, I need more Old Man circus info!)
I could easily see this being adapted as a movie or mini series. It was a very visual story, well described and easy to picture. I wish there was more from this author, hopefully there’s more to come!

I really enjoyed this story but for some reason it was soooo slow for me! I had a really hard time getting into it and reading without being distracted even though I enjoyed the plot. I think it would be something I’d rather watch as a movie, maybe?
