I get that this book is fiction and that it's really about the love of wild animals. However, when the geography is so off-the-mark, it makes everything else lose credibility. Maybe it's just me, but when the author relocated the Lee Highway to run through Tennessee from Chattanooga to Memphis (it really runs through North Alabama and Mississippi to Memphis) and from Memphis through the Texas Panhandle (rather than following US 70 from Memphis to Alamogordo *south* of the Texas Panhandle), it's really confusing.

Clearly, the author confused the "Lee Highway" or US 72 with US 64, which actually does traverse Tennessee from the North Carolina State Line through Chattanooga to Memphis within the state of Tennessee. However, the railroad, which she also mentions, parallels US 72 through North Alabama.

Enjoyable. I’m always interested in plots that are even tangentially related to the Dust Bowl. About 2/3rds of the way the way through, my attention faltered a bit because of the episodic nature of the plot. But I thought the ending was moving.

Such a great adventure story and I love giraffes! It took me a little bit to get into but once I did I couldn’t put it down.
