I enjoyed the back and forth of present day and the past, going through different perspectives of people. I feel like we could've gotten further into some of the characters as it felt like some of them were only surface level.
It just seems like there was a lot left unsaid.

Let me be honest, I’ve been purposely avoiding Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books for quite some time. I know they are huge fan favorites but the synopses were never a huge draw for me and I didn’t get the hype. Trust me when I say, I get it now! Maybe it’s the setting of the Malibu coastline, or the family of surfers, or TJRs engating writing style or the way Julie Whelan absolutely smashes the audio book but Malibu Rising blew my expectations right out of the water.

I loved the relationships between the four siblings and how much they valued their bond with one another. I loved getting to watch their character’s confront their own flaws and grow into themselves. I even loved the guilty pleasure drama of it all (even when the party scenes were a little too over the top). This was a fast paced entertaining listen that had me picking up the audiobook any time I had a few free minutes. I found myself rooting for characters, even if I didn’t trust them to make the right decisions.

Jenkin’s writing combined with Whelan’s narration provided a fantastic listening experience that captured my attention and made this an emotional and incredibly enjoyable listen. Dare say I am very excited to see what else TJR has to offer.

Decent, not as good as The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo but a good and entertaining read!

Taylor Jekins Reid quickly became one of my favorite authors, and her lastest novel didn’t disappoint.
Immediately we are thrown into the life of Malibu, a once quiet fishing area which transforms into a trendy beach town durring the 80’s. The story follows Nina, Kit, Hud, and Jay as they live out one day which will define the rest of their lives and those around them: the day Malibu catches fire. All four of the characters are connected by blood as the children of famous singer Mick Riva (his name might sound familiar if you have read the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo). With the author weaving in his back story along with the plot progression, the readers develop a better understanding of the siblings lives, and how the close knit bond formed. It is a family drama, but one so tension filled that I kept obsessively reading. Reid has a talent for making her characters seem so real and fleshed out, to the point where I had to check on google that the events portrayed were fictional.
While Daisy Jones is probably my favorite of her best sellers, and the reason I didn’t rate this book five stars, it is definitely worth your time.

Very detailed analysis of complicated family matters and the effects of fame in 60s-80s America.

Much like Daisy Jones & The Six, I flew through this read. I absolutely adore TJR's writing style and the way she transports you to a different time period so effortlessly. This story wasn't exactly what I was expecting, as it focused heavily on Mick and June's relationship prior to the children being born and less on the "party of the year" that ended up in flames, but it was still enjoyable! I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a read that is centered around a family's interpersonal relationships.

absolutely loved this book. no notes for miss TJR. the ending was just so rewarding and i’m so proud of the main cast of characters. the concept is also really cool, i thought it was a great way to tell the story of a family.
