Oh my, what a beautifully written, heartbreaking book. Poetic. I have no interest in hockey but the writing brought the game alive. But this isn't a book about hockey, it is about a young man overcoming insurmountable loss and abuse. Read it.

The work that Richard has poured onto the pages of this book is masterful. You get a sense of trust almost from the book and then when you least expect it, that trust is snatched away. You feel as though you’re being betrayed from a trustworthy character.

Nothing I could say about this book would ever do it justice other than it is one of the most important and beautiful books I’ve ever read in my life and it absolutely tore me to pieces.

This is a deeply compelling account of Saul Indian Horse, an Ojibway boy from northern Ontario who is taken from his family during the Sixties Scoop and brought to a residential school. There, he finds solace in hockey.

But, the dark memories and trauma chasing him can't rest until he tells his story. This book is his account of him reckoning with his past and finding hope and community again - and the long dark path it takes to get there.
