This book on its own would have been brilliant. It was very well written, detailed and narrative that is realistic for the characters.
The first two hours of the audiobook was spent describing the author, his knowledge on the subject, his reasoning for writing the manuscript and the authors opinion on changes made to the manuscript. An hour of that was purely in regards to the title being changed and the authors opinion on this change.
Then another hour is spent after the story with a dragging ‘appendix’ that yet again talks of changes in the manuscript.
Personally I feel this is way overdone and completely unnecessary for the story. If this were a study on the original manuscript, this information would be quite handy, but as a story/book for enjoyment, it becomes boring and takes away the majority of the enjoyment of the story. Without this, I would have given this five stars.

Probably the most unsentimental book about addiction that I've read in my life so far. (I don't like to label people as bad or good when humans are much more complex than that BUT) Burroughs was undoubtedly a pretty terrible human being who destroyed, and even ended, the lives of those closest to him... while still being a terrific writer. I know none of what I've said is nothing new, but a lot of what I read was new to me. I really wanted to keep reading this once it hit its mark, and I found myself bringing it nearly everywhere in case I got a spare moment to read it and soak up the momentum.

Entiendo que es una gran historia y que está tremendamente bien contada y al detalle, pero sin duda no es para nada, pero para nada mi tipo de historia. Creo que con Burroughs cierro el ciclo generación Beat.
