I went into it thinking it would just be a surface level gore book but i was shocked to find how emotional and deep rooted this book came to be

"Brother" by Ania Ahlborn is a gripping and chilling tale that delves into the darkest corners of human nature and family dynamics. Ahlborn's writing is both evocative and atmospheric, pulling you into the eerie and oppressive world of the Morrows.

What makes "Brother" truly stand out is Ahlborn's ability to blend psychological horror with emotional depth. The horror elements are intense and unsettling, but the story also explores themes of loyalty, guilt, and the struggle for redemption. It's a dark and haunting read. I thought it was fantastic.

A really good read. I had previously tried two different Ania Alborn books and gave up partway through both. I read this based on a recommendation and was glad I did.

Unpopular opinion ahoy! This book started really well, straight into it - major Texas Chainsaw/Devils Rejects vibes but with a more personal approach. It was great to see this type of story told with an empathetic edge. However, despite the fact that the writing is great, the characters were fully brought to life and the horror concepts - I was bored. I cannot actually fault much with this book other than it being predictable and pretty tame (I was under the impression it was particularly brutal? Time for some self reflection perhaps!) but I just wasn’t very engaged with it and have no idea why. Perhaps it was too familiar a story?
