yeah so i kept reading middle-grade
Really loved the first installment of this as a kid so I binged all the volumes of it that I could get my hands on. This one's cute! (All of them are generally cute. This feedback will repeat as I pad my reading challenge with em.) Really funny how they make London this mythical exotic place, and handling the Bichons felt... so middle-school and real. God.

Just not as good as the original. Not the laugh-out-loud-funny I was expecting. But still very good! Great character development.

In this second book in the Popularity Papers series, Lydia, her mother, and her sister are living in London for six months. As Lydia and Julie start middle school separately, they must each find new friends and figure out their places in the social orders of their schools. Told through notes, email, and drawings, this book rings true with the social challenges of middle school girls. Recommended for grades 4-6.

Just as funny as the first book, this volume follows the tribulations of Julie and Lydia as Lydia moves to England with her family for 6 months. Long-distance friendship is not easy!
I'm just really enjoying this series. :)

Lydia and Julie are back for a second instalment of their research into how to be popular, but this time they have to research in two different places as Lydia's mother has moved the family to London for six months for a job opportunity. This leaves Julie behind, and a little adrift, especially after she fails to make the field hockey team. Julie is then selected by a popular group of students, the Bichons, to be their new member. Meanwhile, Lydia has decided to adopt the bullied and outcast members of her new school. Both make mistakes that cause them pain and teach new lessons about friendship and belonging.
Another great, girl friendly graphic novel, written as a series of exchanges between Lydia and Julie, including chat, email and letters. The story is whimsically illustrated by Ignatow (as Julie). Again, I know her target audience are junior students, but intermediate students would find this appealing as well.

This one made me laugh when Lydia's family moves to London for 6 months and she finds out the differences that made me laugh when my husband and I met :)
