Unfortunately DNF. The story reminds me of Angelfall so much I had a hard time to concentrate on current story without thinking of flashbacks from Angelfall.
I also didn’t like the writing style. I can understand that there may be mistakes in edits but that’s not the biggest problem. I found it hard to follow sequence of … actions. Its kind of mash together sometimes and I had to reread sentences to make sure I didn’t miss anything in between because it simply didn’t make sense. But that’s just that style and it’s not for me.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have to start off by saying that I NEED MORE!!

Population takes place in a post apocalyptic world and follows Abel, a strong willed woman trying to survive in a very different world than the world we know. Through tragic circumstances she meets Kane, who is one of the Others, and embarks on a journey to find one of the last people that she has left.

This was an awesome read and I was hooked from the very beginning. Abel is so kickass and I love that she doesn't take shit from anyone. She was easy to relate to and you could really feel all of the things that she had been through in her life.

Without spoiling anything I will say that I cannot wait to see where this story leads. There is so much I want to know about the Other's society as well as seeing the interactions between characters in the next book. Is it May yet?

I checked this out from the library based on the cover and the short blurb on the back. Let me just say that the short blurb on the back did not adequately portray what this story was about. I was expecting alien apocalypse/sci-fi, but what I got was human and alien sexy time and romance under the guise of alien apocalypse. It felt a little like reading an alien version of Twilight/True Blood fanfic.

The storytelling wasn’t bad, but I definitely would not have checked this book out from the library had I known what it was actually about. Not really my style!

I really do not know how to rate this. The beginning of it is honestly just badly written but it does pick up later on. The book is entertaining and it does its tropes well enough. I am mad that there is a book 2 because I hate duologies almost always but I will probably pick it up. This is basically IBP and vampires. Idk it was a fun time.

The path to trust is forged in faith.
I absolutely LOVED reading this story! If I had to pick something similar, I’d say it’s a cross between Beauty and the Beast, Twilight, mixed with [b:Angelfall|15863832|Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)|Susan Ee|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1464206558l/15863832._SY75_.jpg|16435765].

Aliens have invaded Earth over twelve years ago.
“You are aliens to us.”
“We were here first”
“I’m sure your indigenous communities said the same to their invaders.”
“That doesn’t make it right.”
“No. It makes history.”
They look like humans, but most of the elite are over seven feet fall. The ruling class have these glowing orbs inside their chests which made me think of Iron Man. The world is set up almost like old-England feudalism. The poorest of the humans live in a place called Population, where they fight for their very existence. As with other books by this author, the world building is excellent.

Able is of mixed race, half black and half Cherokee heritage. I loved her strength! Just when you think she’s done for, she’ll surprise you and kick some more ass. Kane is ridiculously swoony for an alien dude.
“If I ever attempt to take from you that which you do not freely give, I give you every permission in this world to take may sword and gut me with it.”
I do wish that there had been more of a build-up from them being enemies, to friends, to lovers. This part bothered me the most
Spoiler How did she go from getting her ass beat, face punched, almost dying, to learning formal dances, and walking in high heels, in only two days?!! I can’t stretch my imagination to go that far!
There were a few inconsistencies throughout the story but the core of Stephens writing is so damn good that those things didn’t bother me too much.

This is a slow burn of sorts, however, when things get hot, they get HOT. I’m still thinking about that kitchen scene.

I do wish the aliens in this story were more alien and less human-like. But then again, I loved stories like [b:Cottonwood|17563213|Cottonwood|R. Lee Smith|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1362690504l/17563213._SX50_.jpg|24495752] and [b:The E.T. Guy|33139830|The E.T. Guy (Office Aliens, #1)|V.C. There is a crazy cliffhanger at the end of this book, so be prepared!
