just okay for me. i liked the dialogue and all the characters were interesting, but overall a little unsatisfying. i think that was the point but still landed a little flat for me

This was very weird, I liked it a lot. What are we without all our preconceived labels?

loved the twilight zone vibes but it was very monologue heavy and more telling than actually showing - i wish we knew more about the festival or at least something a bit more exciting than another trauma dump from a random character in that town
didn't vibe with it completely but it was definitely an interesting and unique read

i enjoyed the writing style, but the plot felt very meandering. that being said, i think it was a great exploration of attitudes and lives in the south, and a very unique read. even in the end, when you find out what event they have been building up to, it still felt like the plot was very thin. i don't mind a thin plot, but it also felt like it was trying to lead the reader into thinking that there would be some kind of crazy twist. i think that the festival they have is an interesting idea, but it also didn't feel very different from the rest of the book because throughout the whole book people treated pew like they were a non-entity, and therefore confessed a lot of their secrets & feelings to them. after reading the whole rest of the book, the festival felt very par-for-the-course.
